Our bargaining chip is who else would want to rent a 25,000 seater stadium in the centre of Bradford? The Bulls can't afford it. No other customers. Getting the land ready for construction for housing or other use would be costly.
If City wanted to play hardball they could always threaten to play elsewhere - see Coventry and so on.
As I said, the tenant and the owner of the ground both need each other.

Bradford ain't playing anywhere else, i'll guarantee you that. Its whole ethos and business structure is bulit around cheap season tickets. If people are only gonna pay £149 for a season ticket they ain't gonna fork out considerable time and money to visit another ground miles away. And where would this mythical new rentable ground actually be? It has to hold 15,000 minumum, the nearest venues are Leeds, Burnley and Huddersfield. Leeds and Burnley would laught themselves daft at such an idea, Huddersfield have 2 sports already at the John Smiths stadium. Believe me, Gibb holds most of the cards as he actually owns the only viable piece of real estate that Bradford could use as a ground. It ain't like a tenant of a shop or warehouse who can argue to the owner of the building that they can find a suitable alternative. Bradfords only real alternative was Odsal, now a decaying cesspit. And Lawn tried that trick about 10 years ago and it wasn't happening then. The reality is Gibb calls the shots here, he bought that right when he purchased the ground.

You've missed the obvious one. Threaten to ground share with BPA!

I guess Horsfall has capacity for around 2,000 fans. Get Rhodes to ditch his cheap ticketing policy. Charge the 2,000 diehard City fans £1,000 for their season tickets and the club will still breakeven ... and save a few quid from not paying the lease on VP. A perfect result for JR and Rupp. :)

People don't know business if they think Bradford hold as many cards as Gibb. Only way City would benefit financially is if Gibb felt sorry for us, but then purchasing VP was an investment that is beneficial to some pension fund if i recall ( you'll put me right on that one). Our only bargaining chip is the threat of building a new ground which ain't gonna happen, we just have rely on the good will of Gordon Gibb that he doesn't whack the price up rather than down.

Gibb holds all the cards because we have a CEO who doesn't want to be here and an owner that doesn't really want us. How can we plan for the future with that set up?

Put a forward thinking person in the hotseat with 8 years planning time to sort an advantageous situation out and see what can happen.

If the guy rumoured to be taking the hot seat is correct then I think you may get your wish, the next CEO in my opinion has either got to have had words with Rupp or is having words with Rupp about the long term future and what Rupps thoughts are with regards investment, unless he is coming into the club with a view of the future funding the club himself with external investment.

That's not strictly correct. Who'd be daft enough to take on a very specialist asset like a football ground with a limited alternative use in an area with low land values and to lease it to a club which had only just come out of administration and left still owing around £14mill of debt?

There were at least three offers on the table at the time to sell VP and lease it back for an extended period. The offer from Gibb/FLPF for VP was the best one from the club's perspective and they were in no position not to take it. Had they not taken the offer (and a similar offer to lease the shop and offices) to raise the cash needed to pay off some of the debt rather than default on the loan, we'd have been in administration again with a couple of banks on our backs.

Where the club went wrong a few years later imo was to decline the offer from FLPF to restructure the lease so that the rent was dependent on the league we were in. The lower the league, the lower the rent. That would have been very sensible as it has turned out. I have no idea why we didn't take up that offer.

I didn’t know that was ever an option Dennis. I remember in another of our financial crisis in 2011, the one where Lawn bluffed about taking us to Odsal, we sent Jack Tordoff to see Gibb and propose a lower the league lower the rent proposal and Gibb turned it down flat.

It was in the period around Admin 2 and long before ML came on board around 2006 so several years before ML's Odsal rant.

I honestly think that at the moment Gibb needs us as much as we need him. Not in either of our interests to piss the other off.

There is no decent alternative home for city at the moment so we need to be here.

That said, there is surely no return in ripping down VP and putting up anything else:
    - Poor area for resi,
    - Poor access for warehousing,
    - Nobody would build office space in this climate,
    - Shopping etc surely saturated in Bradford already,

Gibb needs us here paying rent.

Any rumours yet about the new CEO , I’ve still a feeling it will be Ryan Sparks.
