Well said John, right behind you. Sadly, as I have found even facts and true considered and professional opinions get rubbished on here by people who always claim to have a higher knowledge or technical qualification but never back it up. Ignore it, sniping for snipings sake makes a very small mind.in my experience.

With regards to Valley Parade and the ownership Gibb knows he has the upper hand in negotiations as City have nowhere else to go. In fact, in those negotiations City bring very little to the table other than possibly a very weak bluff that they may build another stadium. In the long term this decision based around Valley Parade is massive, with the amount of time a new stadium takes to get from planning stage to completion, you don't want to leave it too late to start bartering about rent prices as you'll have nothing to bargain with. Coincidentally, how does the rent compare to other football clubs in the same scenario? The correct scenario to the future of sport in Bradford is a shared stadium, training facilities and infrastructure but I guess that ship sailed a long time ago. And with City's aim of big crowds and cheap tickets, any new stadium has the problem of needing to have a large capacity, a problem when stadia are costed on a per seat basis.

A big call is required in the not too distant future. I suspect it might take 5 years or so of planning, appeals, financing, construction etc for a new stadium and maybe even longer if it's some kind of joint use stadium potentially with Council or community involvement. It's not an easy decision for somebody like Rupp or JR at the moment if they don't see themselves having a long term future at the club. The decision isn't going away though. On a positive note, maybe it's already part of the club's long term plan? Yeah, right! ;)

Picking Walsall at random, their 18/19 accounts show £459k in operating leases, stadium, car park, training ground and machinery. We don’t know the proportion allocated to each one, but it’s not wildly different to City.

Unfortunately we couldn’t money spin a new stadium with events the way other teams can. Our proximity to Leeds and Manchester means that there’s areas for big events already established.

Huddersfield managed it. Although that was about 25 years ago come to think of it. Where did the years go? :sob:

The council could help as others have done by protecting the ground as a football stadium and the land for no other use

I don’t think this is true at all. Hull, Huddersfield, Wigan all manage perfectly well. There’s one common theme with all them though, Rugby League. We’d obviously need the Bulls on board, but it’s 100% do-able. All those clubs get international RL and challenge cup semis too, there’s no reason why we can’t compete on that level.

...And let’s not forget the many thousands of pounds we throw away on the pitch every year, which will never be right.

The site on the old Post office site would be ideal for a new stadium.

Rugby League is on its arse at SL level, never mind championship. Hull and Wigan are top SL sides, the time to do that would have been 20 years ago when City and Bulls were flying. We can all dream but with arguably more likelihood of non-league football than championship, in a post Covid world and a disinterested council, there is no way City are leaving Valley Parade for a new ground.

Do the maths, half a million a year in rent and upkeep, £30m+ for a new stadium. That’s a payback of 60 years. Sixty. Even if Avenue and Bulls joined in, it’s still a ridiculously long payback. Not happening. Pointless even discussing it.

As for protecting the land for football use, it’s Manningham, one of the most deprived areas of a deprived city, what else are you going to build there? Houses go for less than £100k in the area.

Never the less VP should be designated as for sport use only. Who knows what will develop over the years

The replies were never that people have a "higher knowledge" or "technical qualifications", you're simply making that up.

The claims were that some don't believe that John can give an impartial opinion on a subject he constantly leans to a positive bias on.

Whether that's true or not, if the club had done as Ryan Sparks suggested they would in the fans forum this thread and the "sniping" wouldn't exist.

Perhaps there's a lesson for honesty and transparency there somewhere, if anyone from the club wanted to look.

How about the fans , starting a fund to purchase the stadium. We have 8 years to save up. 10000 fans £2 a week over 8 years is over £8million pounds. the supporters could become the clubs landlord and set a rent , that could be used for ground maintenance , thus improving the asset or even have a reduce ticketing system for those who invest.
It would only cost £830 each for the 10000 over the 8 years.

I don’t think negotiations for a new lease at Valley Parade are that heavily tilted in the Pension Fund's favour. If City weren't the tenants, who would they rent it too?
I think things are much more evenly balanced. Both parties need each other.

I am no expert but if we have years to run on our current lease, why would it be in our favour more than the pension funds?

I was referring to negotiations for a new lease once the current one is up. I said things would be more evenly balanced than the suggestion that the Pension Fund held all the cards.

Maybe. I would think negotiations would start some time in advance if the pension fund trustees are doing their job.
