A plus for me, is that we're getting our business done early. Bowyer wanted the bulk of his business done before pre-season - which always makes sense, but in the context of the rebuild we need, its particularly important. It looks as though he's being backed, and I'd expect another couple of deals done next week.

Signing Donaldson could be the catalyst for Doyle to score more from flick ons and knock downs that were so scarce (non existent) last season.

Donaldson is a big unit so should ruffle a few feathers next season.

GB is certainly setting out his stall for next season. We wont be bullied around like last season by the looks of how the team is shaping up.

The difference for me between Donaldson and McLean is that it sounds like Donaldson genuinely wants to be here and sees the challenge of getting his hometown club back to league 1 as perhaps his last hurrah in the game. He doesn't seem like the sort of player who has just come here to collect his last pay cheque - the club means something to him and I get the impression he is going to give it his best shot because he sees the chance to finish his career on a real high as the returning local hero.
What could possibly go wrong?

 

I don’t think you could accuse Doyle of “not being arsed” last season. I didn’t get that impression of him at all.

I don't understand why someone supposedly ITK and has iron clad information wouldn't just say the name...

At last a statement from Bowyer ! A leader a player supporters can ID with a scorer surely at this level ?. Considering we had no one at all of his stature up front for the past two seasons we at last have a striker who can make a differece and benefit those around him. I reckon Doyle will be a different player with big Clayton alongside ? His age doesnt worry me at all 35 ? look at all the know how he brings Championship to League 1 he should smash it !

I remember a midweek game when he scored in front of the Kop and then taunted them with his celebration. Probably whilst he was at Brentford. Not surprising he ‘kopped’ some serious abuse.
Looking forward to see him doing the same thing next season but this time with a different reaction.
In football terms he’s not young but his class in L2 is something to look forward to.
