Match Thread City v Walsall| League 2 | 20 October

Thought that was an acceptable point and an alright second half performance. The lack of cutting edge is so glaring though.

 

Honest question:

How many times this season have any of:

Clayton Donaldson
Lee Novak
Dylan Mottley Henry
Harry Pritchard

looked particularly dangerous?

CD and LN have produced a couple of cute finishes, but between the four of them you'd be hoping we'd have a reliable way of creating chances.

Thus far?

Not really...

 

I thought our passing tonight was awful full stop.

 

Don't sign a goalscorer or a winger and that is what you get. Not an ounce of quality in the final third. Truly dire.

 

The lad Watt is going to be some player.

Might as well not have training pitches. We are not really improving the basics. Lack of touch by so many so often. I thought French was an improvement and solid. A couple of good moves but way too short of having impact.

 

Not overall, but certainly at times.

Thought the passing was generally fine.

 

Donaldson, Novak, Pritchard are all division four players for me. Sometimes play OK, sometimes poor, have the odd good game.

When we have more than half the team made up of players like that it is no surprise that performances are up and down.

 

For me the problem is what’s around LN and CD, not them themselves. Yes, they could be sharper but let’s get realistic, they’re league 2 strikers for a reason.
We don’t have 1-2 outlets against any sort of relatively solid opposition, who have something to open them up.

Donaldson set up or made happen anything that was decent tonight. He set up Novak with a nice header in the first half and brought about a save from the keeper from a shot that was as good as the Walsall goal which Donaldson should have got to

 

Thought tonight was one of those average games that make up the majority of a league 2 season. Both teams effectively cancelled each other out which meant for a game where both teams end up going long a lot. Not the worst game i've ever seen. Had we taken our chances we could have won.

 

If Stuart sent the side out and said "get five shots on goal this half", it's not a given, is it?

We really need a 'shoot on sight' player whether up front or in midfield given the games seem to be pretty tight most weeks.

 

Watt reminds me very much of Josh Cullen, very good player.

 

Samuels not fancied over Guthrie then. Nice scouting.

 

DMH is what, division six?

 

Donaldson was our best player on the night.

 

DMH is the winger Stuart banked on.

Clayton is the goalscorer, I imagine.
