I know on paper this looks a pointless game but after a few poor displays I really hope we field a strong team here and try and boost morale.

If 4-3-3 really has to be our preferred style, lets try get a win over the kids using it. True, we may risk injuries but start with the big two and sub off after an hour if they’re leggy.

Could this be the game that our fans turn on the manager.

No idea who will start for this 1.

However, if GB plays 4-3-3 why not play Pritchard Vaughan Donaldson as the front 3 with Cooke, Palmer, Connolly and then wing backs in Mellor and Wood with AOC & BRE as the centre backs?

Obviously tweak it with players GB rates, just can't think who is half decent in the team anymore lol.

I'd prefer back to 4-2-2 as IMO Vaughan & Donaldson need to be closer together, they are really that close. I think Cambridge was the closest I've seen them together? Unless my memory is horrendous.

Personally feel is you play 4-3-3 you need plenty of pace and aggression. Perhaps Oteh may get a run out?

The best formation is the way a lot of the top teams play, It is often shown by the media as 4-3-3 but is in fact a combination of 4-3-3 and 4-4-2,
The back 4 has one attacking full back on one side who will overlap on attack, 3 midfielders will comprise one deeper as a defensive midfielder and 2 more forward to control midfield and support the attack, The front 3 will be one winger out wide and two central attackers one playing deeper but close together down the middle but free to swap as needed and free to attack as opportunities allow, The attacking full back will be on the opposite side to the winger giving lots of width on attack.
It gives the flexibility of players able to defend when needed but also to break and attack quickly and dominate the other side on attack

    Back to 4-4-2 for me.

Despite a decent performance last weekend Northampton will come to defend and frustrate us, probably playing fairly direct football. I don't really rate Keith Curle as a manager, I don't expect him to do anything unpredictable.

I think we can afford to concede some degree of possession like we did against Oldham and still win this.

    Any reason why?

Surely Vaughan & Donaldson will be closer together and can work as a partnership and then Pritchard, Cooke, Connolly, Wood for the midfield 4. I don't think that would be too bad imo.

There's at least 3 wingers in that midfield 4. Won't work

My bad then! Perhaps you put Connolly & Pritchard out wide, Cooke & Palmer is the middle? Put Wood as LB

Yeah, I would go with that. However, I reckon Bowyer is going to be stubborn and stick with 3-5-2 with Hopeless back in the side

Should be the other way round. For fear of going all happy clappy do we really want another atmosphere that we’ve had around the place for the best part of two seasons? Granted, the start of the season hasn’t exactly been enthralling but there are a number of new players at the club and the last thing they need is another fan v manager battle. Thats not to say we shouldn’t question what Bowyer does, be pointless being a football fan if we didn’t, but League 2 is hard enough to watch as it is without any more added negativity.

Think after last nights 2nd half display we may see Pritchard and Ismail on the wings. Devitt could be out for 4 weeks if reports are correct.
