City Matches Abandoned due to the weather in the past

You lot really have great memories...me, can't honestly remember our last home match (with fans)...

 

Trauma makes you want to forget.... and I feel sure the last home game with fans will have been a traumatic experience.

 

1988, we drew the replayed match 2.2

 

I only remember it happening because I was in hospital at the time.

 

Rochdale away in a pre season friendly last year was abandoned at HT because of torrential rain.

 

Plymouth, 2-1. They could have pinched a point with 9 men

 

I remember that Rochdale game. The fog was so thick and all you could see were ghostly figures occasionally appearing before the fog quickly swallowed them up. Arghh those were the days............

 

When I was a lad, I can remember the 1st game I saw abandoned.
It was at Home to Woolwich Arsenal on 13th Feb 1904. We were winning 1-0 at the time, but it was raining damn heavy and it was called off after 45 minutes.
Others I can recall are:

Home V Workington in the FAC 16/1/1909 0-0 - 60 mins due to snow
Home V Newcastle 6/1/1912 0-0 - 51 mins due to snow and fading light
At Elland Road V Barnsley in FAC 18/3/1912 0-0 - 86 mins due to crowd disorder
Home V Middlesbrough 25/12/1912 1-0 - 84 mins due to rain and fading light
Away V Newcastle in the FAC 11/1/1913 0-1 due to snow and fading light
Away V Blackburn 29/11/1919 2-1 - 75 mins due to Fog
Home V Portsmouth 10/1/1920 in the FAC 2-2 - 61 mins due to Waterlogged pitch
Home V New Brighton 11/12/1948 in the FAC 0-0 - 90 mins due to fading light. No extra time was permitted due to the light.
Home V Derby County 23/2/1957 2-2 - 70 mins due to snow
Home V Aldershot 23/12/1961 0-0 - 45 mins due to frost
Away V Mansfield 26/12/1962 1-1 - 36 mins due to icy pitch
Away V Barrow 23/11/1963 1-0 - 29 mins due to rain
Home V Rochdale 10/1/1970 1-0 - 45 mins due to fog
Away V Swansea 14/1/1977 0-1 - 57 mins due to rain andsleet
Away V Stockport 18/2/1977 2-1 - 71 mins due to rain

Thanks to the Bradford City a Complete Record for those upto 1988. I am sure there will be others since.

 

I remember a match v Stockport in the fog that went ahead. One down with ten to play and won 5.1 that should have been abandoned as should Preston in the cup when cracker scored twice but no-one saw either

 

Travelled up to the Swindon game from Cornwall where I lived at the time. The journey should have taken 4 Hours, but it was more like 7 in awful conditions. Arrived with 10 minutes to spare, so no pint or meal! Sat in the main stand and so had to pretend I was happy when we were stuffed.

When it was abandoned I couldn't see any players apart from winger and fullback, who both clearly had no idea what was happening. Did almost 11 hours driving to not see us play!

 

Went to both games, I think referee was David Elleray, I remember Stuart McCall kept walking past him with his hand above is eyes dropping not very subtle hints. I seem to remember Chris Kamara in the stand (probably suspended) getting abused by City fans.

 

Really enjoying this banter.

But is anybody starting match thread for Saturday? Or has it already been postponed/ likely be abandoned - frozen pitch (won't get above -2 degrees before the game and -4 during the night, according to the BBC). Hope covers are going on?

Can anyone remember the season when a home match against Bristol City was abandoned at half-time due to a waterlogged pitch?
It's really annoying me that I've forgotten which year because it was a horrible day. I got back to my car to find it had been broken into and the radio stolen.
