We've had some pearlers over the years haven't we? Remember the new Nahki Wells, the goal machine Aaron Maclean. It took a few weeks for the initiated amongst us to realise he was utter crap but as usual the too blind to see used every excuse for his failings. I think it was the Sheffield Utd game when after yet more complete miscontrol the crowd finally turned. I remember thinking 'where have you lot been, its not like he's just turned crap overnight'. I get that with Doyle, seems like a nice chap but even in the bottom division offers very little on the field to consider picking in the side. I actually hope he gets a move to where a manager will play him alongside a big target man, that way he gets a go in the last chance saloon, because if he doesn't show anything its then goodnight from him.

Doyle will cost Bowyer his job if he keeps picking him, much like Anderson

I think we need a proper defensive/holding mid as there's potential and creativity in Palmer and Gibson, if only they weren't as restrained by having to sit so deep

If we look at players who had a goal scoring pedigree and yet failed to hit the net regularly, then you could add Andy Gray to that list. His first spell with us was good. He had a few good seasons with Barnsley yet on his return he was not able to replicate his earlier form. Sometimes strikers cannot keep going and I wonder if Doyle’s heydays are now in the past. He turned 31 in March, so time for him to have a renaissance, or accept that he is done. As a sub playing alongside more dominant players like Vaughan or Donaldson, he may well be able score. Being part of a threesome where he is deep lying and with little pace, a seeming inability to carry the ball and/or beat a man, then I think he is becoming a passenger, with little to offer other than a good penalty.

    Absolutely, and rightfully so.

We have some pathetic characters at our club who should never have been signed, let alone given multi-year deals.

How anyone can point out new lads for stick is beyond me when we have double-figures worth of losers from last season.

Agreed, but so was Patrick Vieira who is 6'4". I am not convinced that height is a deciding factor for the quality of a defensive midfielder. Maybe skill is more important?

O'Donnell, Longridge, Richards-Everton/A. O'Connor, Paudie, Mellor, Wood/Ismael/GibsonAN OTHER loanee, Palmer, New midfield enforcer, Scannell, Vaughan, Donaldson would be my preferred XI in a 4-4-2.

With the options we have now, I'd possibly play Wood over Ismael or Gibson on the left, to give a bit more defensive protection and allow Scannell to rampage on on the right, like Kyel Reid used to do (albeit on the other flank) when balanced out by Will Atkinson on the other side. In the games where we used to use Hines and go for it with two wingers under Parky, I'd then use the likes of Ismael or Gibson in the current set up under Bowyer.

You have to be patient with the arrival of loanees.

I know someone who plays for a championship club (U23’s last season) and is well thought of. He had 3 or 4 league one clubs wanting to take him on loan. Firstly his manager didn’t tell him if he’d be letting him go until after the window closed, then once he said he would, he had the other managers ringing him with information on their systems of play, how much he’d feature etc etc. He then spoke to various people in the game about each club, then went back to his manager. Once he’d decided, the two clubs had to agree how much of his wages would be paid (he wasn’t involved in this bit). After all that, which took 2/3 weeks, he signed on loan.

This could be what Bowyer means when he says he has plates spinning. It’s out of his and the clubs hands. It’s a waiting game unless we actually buy somebody. If it’s anything like what I know, the players will be doing their due diligence and will want to play, for as high a club and as stable a club as possible, amongst other things.

Unless we stop with the constant chopping and changing (take heed those wanting or thinking about ditching Bowyer), we’ll always be labelled as a basket case club, where players of any real potential will avoid like the plague.

I don’t think the contracts given to Anderson, Devine and Colville will be impacting us signing a better quality CM. I can’t believe they will be earning much of a salary between them and they provide some much needed depth to the squad. The issue is we are currently relying on 1 or 2 of them to be in the starting XI when they aren’t good enough for a team aiming for top 3. What we need is a quality CM to play alongside Palmer in the starting XI.

For me only O Donnell and Scannell from last season should have been kept. The rest have too much failure baggage from last season with them to be considered by supporters as players we can rely on and get behind this season.
The opening few games aren't a disaster but as the majority of the players have a less than successful history as a BCAFC its like reopening a wound

Yes we clearly have too many players on ludicrous wages that we have no hope of shifting.

Unlike Josh Wright, these lot don't even have the self respect to piss off, take a pay cut, and get on with their careers.

I worry for lads like Doyle, who was so roundly mocked against Preston that you could hear the sarcastic hurrays on the radio when he won a header. He and lads like AOC and Akpan could become targets for abuse if they continue to embarrass our club week in, week out.

He got stick for not beating Clarke in the air when balls were aimlessly pumped into him. Crazy.

I agree @dodge33cymru@dodge33cymru. The standard of player that is playing in this league are really not up to what was being asked both on a physical level and skill level. My criticism of GB was not what he tried to do, but failing to see it was not working and his inability to change as a result.

Agree 100% after watching tonights debacle. We had no one who could get on the ball and make anything happen...at all. Omari Patrick was the only one to actually get the ball and run at PNE tonight.

That's my fear too. When we added Vaughan and Donaldson to the squad everyone was, quite rightly buzzing, and so many fans said then, all we needed now was that enforcer. The weeks have passed, the season has started, and we still haven't brought in that midfield enforcer.

To be honest, if we could have brought in one of Donaldson or Vaughan in the summer I think most fans would have been delighted. I just wonder if we expected Doyle to move on (given the strong rumours linking him with Swindon and Blackpool at the time) and it has thrown a spanner in the works him still sticking around?

Our only hope is Bowyer pleads to Stefan to free up more funds to strengthen but Stefan would be well within his rights to refuse, of course, having already agreed to see to the 2.5m deficit (before the McBurnie sell on arrived).

Seriously our midfield is a complete joke. Anderson and Akpan incredibly poor. Devine young but imo lightweight. Palmer maybe has something but playing him to deep. Crying out for a couple of forward running quick lads. Prem loans maybe ?

What game was our manager watching.

“When they came on, Omari Patrick and Luca Colville showed a threat - going forward - for us, which has given me something to think about.”
