His contract at Peterborough is up on June 30th.
They don't want him and he won't be returning to them.
Maybe worth making an attempt to get him back? (If we're still in business!!)

Wonder how it will work. If clubs have any sense they will offer only very low wages.

Perhaps signings will be more geographically oriented?

Not sure how it would work.

I would be putting it reduce wages or deferrals in contracts in case of another lockdown happens.

However, from and agent or player side of things not sure I would agree to it because I feel a second/third lock down is happening no matter what anyone says.

I think we will let all non contract players go and not sign anyone until last minute but I don't expect signings of any note until next season is 100% going ahead with no sign of a second/third wave.

I think all teams will have small squads next season with youth as back up like the country this will take a long time to get over this

I think youth will be more than backup. I think you'll see some very young sides in league 2.

The lack of planning through out the years and the extremely lack of direction is really going hit us hard if we are still around.

I just don't see how we go up for years to come if and it's a big IF we can't finish this season.

    Think we are done!

    Why?

If it is supply and demand, then footballers in their late 20’s and early 30’s will want to get an income, even if it is on a reduced basis. Better to have a salary than none at all.

One thing I felt the previous ‘owner’ probably got right (but at the wrong time and perhaps implemented in the wrong manner) was payment based on results.

If footballers in League 2 were on about £1200 a week basic, but with hefty performance bonuses, then that may well work.

Clubs get rewarded if they achieve promotion, get lucrative cup ties and they can then pass down a percentage of the cash.

Yeah and they'll all go to better clubs. We're should take Cooke, we won't attract any better on the money we're likely to pay.

Supply will exceed demand. But will it be affordable supply? Many clubs in L1 and 2 will have reduced revenues and players will have to reduce their salary demands, as you say. But will they? Even then, if revenue is hit hard, clubs will have their budgets slashed. There are many unknowns right now - but we do know that lower league clubs are hugely dependent on gate receipts. If fans stay away through a combination of financial pressures, safety fears, and the fear of the unknown, sales could plummet.

A waiting game. Until we have a definite timescale regarding the new season (this one is done), nobody will come in and all players whoms contract are up on June 30th, will be released.

Cash is king and with sod all coming in, the club will likely not part with any unnecessary expenditure. Quite right.

Like all in society, so much will change and so many will suffer, both economically and psychologically. Players like Cooke may well end on the scrap heap.

A lot will depend on the attitude of the Agents and PFA. Many players would appear to let them negotiate wages. Given the previous situation, you could say it was a sellers market, in that clubs were falling over themselves often paying salaries far beyond their income levels. The demise of Bury and the well publicised problems with several other clubs, show his is not a healthy or sustainable model. The figure which I suggested which would guarantee a figure of around £62,500 with the potential to go significantly beyond that. Just to put this in context an NHS Consultant has a starting salary of just under £80,000. A primary school Head teacher starts in the mid £50,000’s!

Many PL clubs are all ready saying they won't be big transfers this summer. Liverpool and Utd have both already said that.
We are now talking about all next season behind closed doors plus we don't know if a second wave will happen
We say a vaccine in 12/18 months but we really don't know and I can't see many football clubs wanting to spend a load of money on wages and signing players on big contracts while this uncertainty is about.

Teachers and doctors can work until they are 67. Footballers cannot and therefore need to earn decent money over a shorter career.

    Not true that's why.

It's just that the EFL and PFA are not saying much. Just clubs like small clubs like West Ham and Brighton.

Nothing to report from the EFL really.
