Bet Bury don't think todays game was meaningless. Todays game has brought them some much needed revenue and what a cracking show of support from City fans. You should be applauding them for the effort they made today.

 

Hopefully our flare throwing chavs stay away.

We do have a majority of very well behaved friendly fans who travel and love a beer and banter with home fans before a game.

Sadly, we do have some right idiots wearing their uniform chavvy gear who pretend to be hard men, but are little more than an embarrassing nuisance, as witnessed at your neighbours Rochdale recently.

That said, don't think there will be any issues on Saturday.

Great to see you back at Gigg Lane, hopefully back in the Football League in the next few years.

East is so composed on the ball, I've said it before and I'll say it again, I really rate him.

 

Give me Bury, Rochdale, Oldham & Chesterfield over FGM, Salford, Fleetwood, Creepy & Sutton all day long and twice on a Sunday.

 

Bury and it's fans should be very proud of what they have achieved in 4 years culminating in today's match.

Nice for Bobby to get involved on that last goal. Good to see our young lads getting some minutes.

 

From what I saw and heard not a bit of trouble didn't see any pyrotechnic the guys at the back to the left gave the team great local support, a good day out but lets not get carried away with the standard of opposition, to say apart from the police presence that IMO was OTT the rest of the Bury support team were all volunteers, well done and all the best for the coming season, a proper football club.

 

Good luck for the future. Still a tidy looking ground and better than most at a much higher level.

 

Gilly will get his starts in, Hughes and rotation go hand in hand throughout his career. Even a fit McDonald at this stage isn't playing 90 minutes when the Sat-Tues-Sat schedule picks up in the season. There were times last season when Smallwood could have done with sitting the odd game out for a refresh but the options weren't there with Clayton and Osadebes fitness when it got tough, with our depth this season that shouldn't be a problem.

Always think back to the last time we went up. In my mind it was Jones & Doyle every game in midfield, but Ricky Ravenhill still had 21 starts in the league through rotation. It was always Hanson & Wells up top but Connell and Andy Gray had 14 starts between them. In that side, no player started more than 38 league games. Every successful side needs to give it's best players a game or two to refresh from time to time and it felt like last season we couldn't rest our best players as the depth wasn't there, I think so far we've gone a long way to correcting that.

 

It's a pre season friendly let's enjoy the day for what it is without the colourful smoke which quite honestly serves no purpose but a club fine.
Fingers crossed for a trouble free afternoon and a warm welcome to our players old and new.

 

Let's not get carried away and realise what league these Bury players will be playing in this coming season, men and boys, but enjoying it, City fans certainly spending plenty of money burger chips ETC.

Good luck with your venture, hats off to all the volunteers and nice to see the name again. I do miss the wine and cheese picnics we used to have in the 70’s at Gigg Lane.

I can't be there on Saturday as I'm sunning myself in Spain. But I hope the day is a total success and that Bury can once again take there rightful place in the football league.
It's depressing that we've lost some of our closest rivals from o'wer t'hill in recent seasons in the guise of Rochdale,Bury and Oldham.
Now we have trips to FGR, Crawley and Sutton which are a very pale imitation.

 

That long throw he has on him also adds another element to our play that we didn't have last year and could come in very handy.

 

Thanks @Kevin1954 watched the game live on YouTube. A good run out but most importantly we helped the new Bury off to a good start back at Gigg Lane. The commentary said it was just short of 4 years since a game was played there! I thought the stadium looked in very good nick after 4 years.

 

5451 fans welcomed Bury back to competitive football at Gigg Lane yesterday as they got their season off to a fine start with a 5-1 victory over Glossop.
