A request from a Bury fan for Saturday

Evening all and thank you for accepting me onto your forum .
I am a Bury fan -.( not a director / official so this is just me posting my own thoughts ) I just wanted firstly to thank you for selling out your allocation and hopefully making Saturday a great first official match as Bury Fc since being thrown out of the league .
As you may know the game is limited to 2275 fans . .
This is partly because the main stand is being refurbished, the Manchester Road end is also not in use ( unsure if we have a safety certificate for it ) so just the South Stand ( Bury fans ) and Cemetery End ( Bradford fans) are in use . The Cemetery end is the one on the left as you approach the main stand from Gigg Lane .
The reason on the limit of 2275 is that the Council , police and north west counties league are watching to see if we can stage games safely even at that limit .
We are manned completely by volunteers other than the police and the official stewards .
So everyone else is doing it for the love of the club and the game . So all the car park operators , bar staff , turnstile operators , cleaners , officials , programme sellers , etc are all unpaid .
This game is the first of a double header as we play Preston on Sunday .

if we cannot show that we can manage such a crowd safely , then we may be limited to 2275 or even less for the season .
Which would be a tragedy and would severely hamper our re-birth

So can I please offer a plea to be on your best behaviour , listen to the stewards and volunteers , use the bins provided , don’t go on the pitch , don’t try to sneak beer into the ground ( you can I believe have a beer in the fanzone area which I understand should be being operated outside the ground ) etc etc . You know the score
Our future could literally be in your hands .
We all can’t wait until we are back in the EFL as a fan owned and run club . Please enjoy your day and don’t beat us too heavily ( we are 5 leagues behind you )

Thank you if you got this far and for being part of a big occasion for the club

Hopefully our flare throwing chavs stay away.

We do have a majority of very well behaved friendly fans who travel and love a beer and banter with home fans before a game.

Sadly, we do have some right idiots wearing their uniform chavvy gear who pretend to be hard men, but are little more than an embarrassing nuisance, as witnessed at your neighbours Rochdale recently.

That said, don't think there will be any issues on Saturday.

Great to see you back at Gigg Lane, hopefully back in the Football League in the next few years.

    All the best

If you wanted a well behaved travelling fan section then I would suggest that we may have been the wrong choice.

a majority are well behaved but we seem to attract a section of fools to local away games

It's a pre season friendly let's enjoy the day for what it is without the colourful smoke which quite honestly serves no purpose but a club fine.
Fingers crossed for a trouble free afternoon and a warm welcome to our players old and new.

Every big city club has their idiots , even little Bury have their share of village idiots .
I don’t think the club expected the scrutiny they are getting and yes maybe a couple of games against similar level teams as a test might have been better with hindsight. Though of course no EFL club would have sent a proper team half way through their pre season campaign against tier 9 opposition.
We have the added risk of the Bury Fc vs Bury AFC animosity amongst our own fans too !!

Good luck with your venture, hats off to all the volunteers and nice to see the name again. I do miss the wine and cheese picnics we used to have in the 70’s at Gigg Lane.;)

Hope our fellow City fans behave and your vital ground improvements are readily completed for the benefits of Bury and Bury FC.

    Good luck again.

All the best to you guys I've always enjoyed the away days at Bury and the little Fishpool Liberal Club ideally situated a stones throw away from Gigg Lane, I would hope our unsavoury fans will only attend in small numbers and we all have a great afternoon of football, I can only speak for myself but I have purchased a ticket to help you guys on the first rung of the ladder to hopefully get back into league football as I think there will be many others doing the same.
Good luck with the coming season.

@Buryboy@Buryboy good luck in your climb back up the leagues. Now that the two factions have (mostly) come together, I expect you to get through the next 2 or 3 levels very quickly.

I'll be travelling up from Stafford for this match, with a pre-match visit to Ramsbottom (one of my favourite UK destinations).

I can't be there on Saturday as I'm sunning myself in Spain. But I hope the day is a total success and that Bury can once again take there rightful place in the football league.
It's depressing that we've lost some of our closest rivals from o'wer t'hill in recent seasons in the guise of Rochdale,Bury and Oldham.
Now we have trips to FGR, Crawley and Sutton which are a very pale imitation.

Give me Bury, Rochdale, Oldham & Chesterfield over FGM, Salford, Fleetwood, Creepy & Sutton all day long and twice on a Sunday.

I can understand most of those, but Sutton United are one of the most welcoming clubs in the league, a sort of Accrington Stanley of the south.

Still doesn't make for a great away day though does it? Surely you'd much prefer Bury or Oldham away with a decent ish crowd and a good atmosphere?

At least you won't have to go to Orient or Stevenage this season

I went to Orient two years ago and it's hard to disagree. Although Epping Forest seemed nice. Ground was decent but the area around was aa rough as a badgers arse.

Yeah I get that and it's a fair point but we probably took the combined total to those 3 games that we're taking to Bury for a pre season friendly. That tells it's own story and it's why the majority, or at least those without other reasons to visit down south, would prefer a more local, northern team in the division.
