Burton (H) - August 21st

Good 3 points if a little patchy in performance but how badly did it show we are crying out for a mobile central midfielder and a target man up front as a matter of urgency

 

A pointon the atmosphere, I thought it was very good tonight and against Barnsley. Very loud at times.

Like many have said plenty to work on.
And thankful them Brewers were suffering from a droop Infront of goal.

 

Fair enough Fordy - it is all about opinions. I said boring because whenever anybody mentions him you chip in with "he's sh*te". Serious question - did you see any of the good stuff he did tonight?

 

Most of their chances came from down our right side or through the middle.

 

Both full backs were dreadful.

We were lucky tonight.

 

We need a right hard bastard in midfield, another quality forward and centre back with pace.

 

He made 2 or 3 good sliding tackles and that was it. Offered nothing going forward and still full of defensive calamities

Spot on. A wins a win but we can't carry on like that all season. Very little creativity and nothing sticking up top with Doyle. We need to make sure that we use the remaining loan window wisely to bring in a frontman along with some serious midfield leadership!

 

Crazy as it seems I think the result was more important than the performance even at this early stage. Burton have themselves to blame for missing some great chances. I think we will get better but my gut feeling is that we are miles off being playoff contenders.

 

Agree. We are mid table at best.

Whats concerned me so far is the lack of opportunities that Doyle has had. I can't recall him being any sort of threat tonight. Miller was just chasing shadows all evening. Neither won any headers of note.

 

Doyle and Miller play their football on the deck mate. The big strong Burton defenders had them in their pockets all night.

The reason we continued with the long ball was because we lacked the quality and composure to play out from the back. I noticed that even when not under pressure, O'Donnell never played out from the back, preferring to punt it long.

 

I'm delighted and amazed in equal measure.

 

Absolutely; we're gonna need every point to stay up this year.
