I suggest we play a simple formation, nothing too over complicated, 433 or 532 to ensure Doyle isn't isolated on his own up front and go back to what weve been doing well in December.

We need to keep the ball on the floor, press like mad when we lose possession and stop hitting aimless long balls up front. We need to build through the middle with O'Brien, Payne n Ball and be patient. We have technically better players than most of the teams around us, but if we play to the opposition's strengths ala yesterday, we'll lose.

Granted we need more talent on the bench who are first team quality, but we dont need to overcomplicate our game.

That display yesterday was everything that we shouldnt have done. We hit long balls all game and watched them come back from their hulk like centre halves, and stopped pressing. Seems like the time off since Rochdale has lead to some complacency. They need to realise this isn't job done, we're still massively in the shit, and character, belief and desire to win is needed now more than ever....

 

This may sound radical, but we could try not tw@tting it long, not pressing the opposition and stop playing players out of position. Maybe go back to the way we tried to play in December

And not play Akpan - certainly not as the only central midfielder.

 

Same system as at Rochdale with players playing in their correct positions. Caddis RWB, Wood LWB and a back three of the usual suspects. A new midfielder to play alongside LOB and us to play football on the deck so Payne and Ball can create for doyle/new striker.

If Hopkin plays O'Connor and McGowan together yet again then i am switching off, which is what the defence will end up doing.
Seen rumours that NKP was bound for Rochdale, cannot let that happen until an upgrade appears.
A need to get back our mojo by being positive and play the pressing game.
Hopkin could easily get out-coached by nigel Clough.
Best to go all out for the win and be damned.

A winger arriving this week would be a tonic as well, a need for speed and width.

I'd start by not having Akpan on his own in centre midfield. We set up far too open. He's hardly the most commanding of midfielders anyway.
I'd probably move NKP back inside into a 3 man central defence. We need to get back to being as solid as possible.
Hopefully we'll have a couple of new faces by then. Maybe a left back, centre midfielder and a striker.

 

Where's that optimistic emoji when you need it? We seem to be one of the worst sides in the country in the transfer market. So slow to get moving for some reason? Surely our position is a good enough reason for some urgency.

 

Could it be a lack of bodies at the club knowing what there doing , why we are so slow doing things ?

 

Really worrying FG!! Still have a strange urge to go Saturday but can't see anything changing from the last couple of week. Their confidence is at rock bottom again.

 

A different thought ................... Looking back over our last two results - Could it be it's just Hopkin who is lacking confidence, with his questionable tinkering ?

(And as for our two new additions to the squad - I see only numbers, NOT improvement )
