It's ironic that as you say a Brexiter is asking the PM to do what he and most Brexiters didn't want, to bring cheap foreign labour into the country.
In area's where labour markets have a shortage allow controlled numbers into the country on work permits, Germany did it for years with Turkish labour but not open borders or free movement and certainly not at the expense of driving wages down, the farmers will tell us that the price of the product will have to increase, that's always been the case.
If Boris allows unlimited numbers in he'll be accused of trying to get a low wage economy, he says its up to business to get their own house in order, if HGV wages are poor for anti social hours etc then pay wages that will attract the right people.

Been reading what you have been saying and all i can say is, what a load of tosh.

Brexit has had a massive impact on HGV drivers. Reasons why...

    1. a massive load of them left to back to the eu
    2. we didnt train enough of our own to replace them. If we transitioned properly instead of in the middle of a pandemic maybe we could have had those people in place.
    3. we cant get the people over from the EU to work here now we need them. The number one reason is the mess of red tape and need for a passport which not many EU HGV drivers have. So they take up work in the EU where their own shortages mean the jobs available are more attractive than they are here.

Brexit is to blame for both the loss of HGV drivers and the fact we cant get them to come back.

You say we can train our own people to do jobs that the unemployed of europe were doing. Why? why should we train our people to be fruit pickers, or any low skilled job for that matter. We should be pushing our population into vocational work and further education in order to actually create a high skilled workforce with a high productivity.

The tide has finally turned and its been very enjoyable watching you bleat about brexit, clutching at those final straws with statements like its still 51 to 49. People like you will always be brexiteers and thats fine but you will be the 1 in 10 you were before the BBC gave the minority view of leaving the eu parity with the majority view of remaining. Thats the same BBC that you hate which without would have not won the referendum.

Brexit is crumbling the UK, we are an embarrassment and its making people poorer. Any benefits you think will happen are just hopes, theres no solid evidence they will come. A true patriot wouldn't let his/her ideals get in the way of something which is actually harmful to the country.

BBC bosses have at last recognised what many have said about the BBC having an anti Brexit and the right to its reporting and news programmes, They are now organising courses in fairness and balance for its broadcast staff, I suppose better late than never although some should be sacked they have had that many warnings of unfairness that seem simply ignored

I never agreed it is perceived you are putting words in my mouth If you read my post correctly you will see I said that the government regularly appear on numerous BBC programmes but have boycotted the Newsnight and the Today programs for what they believe is a bias against them, Whether perceived or not it is telling that the BBC has now responded with extra training for those reporters some who have been reprimanded before by the BBC editorial board.

The BBC is that unbiased that the government will not even appear on the program because the BBC and Newsnight are so biased against both the Tories and the government and have been disciplined for been so

And yet they regularly appear on every other news channel and program and are questioned hard by much better presenters than Newsnight on those channels, The difference is that Newsnight find it hard to hide its bias so is not impartial

Do you watch Question time last night….even the hand picked audience ( admitted by Fiona Bruce during the very same program, which was somewhat know already) Brexit voters are turning. Only those in denial or in shame are resisting commenting for fear of being made fun of?

What is the time scale for the benefits ‘yet to come’? Serious question. Already coming to two years up. So from Brexit how long until we have the benefits?
    • Two years from leaving.
    • Four years from leaving.
    • Six years from leaving.
    • Eight years from leaving.
    • Ten years from leaving.
    • Twenty years from leaving.
    • Fifty years from leaving.
Quite frankly I cannot see any real tangible benefits. If there are any please list. We seem to be achieving equality with Europe in that when you now go on holiday to an EU country, you get far fewer Euros to the pound.

Yellowhammer is irrelevant it was a report on the implications of a no deal Brexit on the UK, Most of it never applied and was put in the bin as fake news much like the false reporting on the Pork situation that the media especially BBC blame on Brexit but is really caused by China cancelling huge pork supply contracts that farmers had geared up to meet over the last couple of years, There is as many pigs been butchered this year as in most previous years but they cannot cope with the over production caused by China that is now in the farms

I think I said that it was my view that the current malaise with HGV driver shortage was down to a number of factors, and that Brexit was a significant factor, but not an exclusive one. It’s about gaining an objective holistic view, rather than one side or the other selectively fitting the information to support their position.

Theoretical capacity to provide tests and the actual number of candidates may well show a substantial difference.

Not sure, Got the figure from the BBC so probably inaccurate:)
The 40,000 is the number of tests which were booked and then cancelled, Not theoretical ones,
