Why the hell have the club got involved? If the club are incurring legal costs supporting what is a private matter, I shall be livid. Like others on here, I didn't donate my season ticket refund for the club to waste cash supporting Richards-Everton. The club need to issue a further statement clarifying the matter.

As I said in the beginning I don't think there was anything wrong from either side.

Just thinking out loud though now that the club have got involved.....are the club going to appoint Opus Law every time a white player gets pulled over as well?

The legal department at the club might be busier than the scouting team!

A report should be done into the incident and potentially investigation, but City has no business publicly making a statement like this and I think had it happened 3 months ago they wouldn’t have done. Feels like a publicity stunt from the club which is very cheap considering how serious a situation it can be. Wonder if the club will comment should the police be found to have not acted unlawfully, doubtful. I won’t be asking for a refund but it doesn’t sit right for me. It’s between BRE, his family and the police everything becomes a public circus these days.

Its bo;;ocks , what next ? , you only stopped me because i'm Polish - you only stopped me because i'm white middle aged ( highest in drink driving ) . Soon the Police are going to be powerless . I drive a car never been stopped why ? . It's because it's taxed - it's got insurance - its got a legit MOT certificate , the car hasen't got a dodgy past ( i checked ) . If every Police stop is classed ( involving the BAME) community ) is proceded by " you only stopped me because " ( insert relevent statement ) would the situation arise that they think lets not bother for fear of the race card and litigation ? . The aims of groups that infitrated BLM ( the cause was just at the start ) is to defund the Police amongst many other actions , the vast majority in this country whatever race - creed - or colour have no problems with the Police and have very little contact . Mistakes happen , but if you rush to social media - the press etc it gives a very false view of the situation and makes it look like it happens everyday when clearly it is not the case . Anybody that says anything that goes against the current " mood " is classed as racist , this drives the discussions back underground .

I’m a white middle aged bloke - and therefore obviously evil by association. Although I have a non-English background, so maybe that compensates for my sins a little. Been stopped and searched by police twice in my life, once while driving. They explained their reasoning. No issues.

This is where we are now - any stop and search of a BAME person will be demonised and automatically branded a racially prejudiced event. The job of the police is becoming more and more untenable, and you’re right - there’s a clear agenda to stigmatise the police. I hope to god that this defunding nonsense dies the death it deserves to. It’s madness. I can see stop and search powers being removed - the fact that when stop and search was scaled back for a period under Teresa May, crime rates went up, won’t matter a jot.

A senior police officer (metropolitan I think) was on the radio a few weeks back when the BLM campaign was starting in this country. He told that members of the black community in his area were massively supportive of stop and search on account of the number of young black people being stabbed, shot and intimidated by other black gang members. The police just can't win. As you say their job is becoming impossible.

Well I was stopped by police in a macdonalds drive through simply because i was driving a 40k Merc at 11pm more than 10 miles away from its registered address. Did I complain? Did I cause a scene? No because I want the police to be on the lookout for unusual things to prevent crime.

The whole video seems to hinge on the use of the handcuffs and a pointed taser. He didn't seem to be making a fuss until the cuffs went on. Just for clarity the lad hasn't done anything wrong, maybe apart from buying a car off the wrong people.

I can see both sides of the arguement here. Police acting on intelligence and i can understand them taking no chances where a firearms marker is in place. That said, if i'd been pulled over and had cuffs stuck on me and taser in possible deployment while claiming my innocence i think i'd be be a bit pissed off. Don't like the club statement though, unprofessional and not needed.

I agree that a club statement should have been put out but only to confirm they knew what had gone on and that it was a private matter.

I agree although the most disproportionate statistic for being stopped by police isn't actually colour or background.

If I get pulled over again i wonder if i can get my employer to chip in on the case because the stop was sexist and I was profiled as a man?

The cost aside, what do they hope to achieve ? What would be a successful outcome?
An apology from the police ? Compensation for hurt pride?
How about we print him off a little certificate saying....This is to certify that Ben Richards Everton has qualified as a snowflake.

It wasn’t a race motivated search I’m 100% certain of that.
I bet if I had been driving that car, and I’m a small, fat white bastRd, I’d also have been stopped and handcuffed until the search was complete.

ps. No I’m not Mark Lawn lol

As I said, if the intelligence is correct then I have no problem with BRE being stopped despite that being an unpleasant experience for him. The police have to do their job. Let's see what comes from the investigation.

With hindsight, do you think it was wise driving through Thornton Road area at 2am on a Saturday night looking for an all night Sushi bar?
