I can see what angle your coming from yet i've heard no evidence to back this up. Seems to me the police have made a mistake based on a cloned number plate, unless this is some sort of super conspiracy where this 'cloned number plate' doesn't exist. We have to be careful if we want the police to do the job they are employed to do if every time a black person is pulled over we accuse them of doing it because its a black man involved. Its the main reason grooming gangs were allowed to go unchallenged for years.

Proactive police stops are not random though are they? There's always a reason for stops and as long as they're evidence based I have no problem with it. Good policing.

It's a very tricky time for police, particularly now. If there is genuine intelligence that there is a cloned plate then this stop is fine and keeps the public safe. If not, we have a problem don't we.

But not as pissed off as if you'd been a policeman , going about his duty, stopping a vehicle that was 'marked for firearms', not cuffing him and been on the wrong end of a shooting.

Well it depends how concrete you want the reason to be.

3 of the 4 times I've been stopped have been because my behaviour and actions could have been deemed as suspicious but in reality it was nothing more than me driving through certain areas at certain times. They were certainly no more evidence based than what BRE put up with.

A lot of stops will simply be because someone is acting suspicious which is obviously subjective and not based on firm evidence. Are you happy to lose the positive results of those?

I'd like to think the police were acting on genuine information, all the coppers i know would do. Thats not to say there aren't corrupt police officers, but i think we're making too much out of a routine stop due to wahts happened over the past few months. It is tough for the police these days, i watched a video today of tow met officers wrestling with a black guy on the floor. One had control of the assailant with a knee on his head, turns out the guy had been in posession of a knife and had a long list of violent crimes to his name having served significant prison time. if you carry a knife with potential to harm and kill all bets are off, you can stick two knees on their neck for all i care.

A vehicle with a marker for firearms should not be pulled over by local plod with a taser.

I agree. But it becomes irrelevant in this case. 'Plod' did pull him over and dealt with it in the only way they could. With sense, safety and respect in mind. Oh, and legally.

The police will also be reacting to it being out of its area as I would imagine the car is registered to his present address which I imagine is leeds going by what the girlfriend said to the police.

Do you have any figures for the positive results of these stops?

With hindsight, do you think it was wise driving through Thornton Road area at 2am on a Saturday night looking for an all night Sushi bar?

Well it's quite difficult to find stats that are nailed on because there will be wide variations between the reasons behind it but I found this....

Across England and Wales in 2017/18 around 30% of stops and searches led to what’s called a “positive outcome.” This refers to cases where action is taken against people who were stopped and searched. This includes arrest cases but also covers other resolutions like warnings and Penalty Notices.

In London 60% of positive outcomes were related to drug offences, 11% to theft, fraud and counterfeit offences, and 9% were for “weapons, points and blades”.

    https://fullfact.org/crime/does-stop-search-work/

As I say, not perfect, obvious flaws and but it does bring some positive results in quite crucial areas.

Yeah but it shouldn't be irrelevant. West Midlands police have quoted the stop was for drugs and firearms purposes, i'd question why local beat officers are pulling a car over in these circumstances armed only with a taser. That begs the question as whether there was a risk of a firearm being found at all.

I can just picture the hoodlums of Bradford cruising round Thronton Road looking for a Japanese fish bar. I think you mean Shisha bar.

I have read somewhere that ARV's are not routinely despatched unless a firearm has been reported to have been seen or its a pre planned operation.

The they are making way too a point of this being a stop for a firearm. Maybe hoochy was right, maybe they did pull him cos he's a black guy with a nice car.

The police have more than enough excuses to pull people over these days without resorting to random stops. This day and age they're goaded into pulling them over, either with young scroates looking for a chase or with use of mobile phones or not wearing seatbelts. You can guarantee a stop for not wearing a seatbelt will coincide with other offences, they're genuinely not bothered. One of my pet hates not wearing a seat belt, why would you draw attention to yourself by doing something that could put your life at risk in the event of a crash?
