Why would city be paying legal bills for a private matter?

Ridiculous. A mountain out of a molehill. Seems like the Police can't do their job anymore, particularly if the suspect is BAME.

Because they've released a statement saying they are.

If he thinks there is wrong doing then there are legal channels to go down, the same for anyone who thinks they have been dealt with in a matter not in accordance with police regulations. Not really sure why the club have put out a statement though, it should be dealt with as a private matter but i guess that went out of the window for the likes and retweets route on social media.

I may be wrong. Its just my interpretation - the club has instructed lawyers on behalf of the player. So they may be picking up the cost - otherwise why make reference to the club having intervened?

Cuffed because of no evidence? He was cuffed because there was a suspicion of firearms. How are the police supposed to know whether its the real car or a cloned one until they look into it? Once they knew this he was free to leave the scene.

I imagine there was no firearms police involved as they took an judgement call based on the fact he was outside of the car in shorts and vest with no obvious firearm on his person.

Totally agree. It’s his prerogative. I’d be interested to see the outcome in a few weeks.

I can see both sides of the arguement here. Police acting on intelligence and i can understand them taking no chances where a firearms marker is in place. That said, if i'd been pulled over and had cuffs stuck on me and taser in possible deployment while claiming my innocence i think i'd be be a bit pissed off. Don't like the club statement though, unprofessional and not needed.

But then if he did have firearms he shoots the police, nothing they can do.. That Huddersfield drug lord? Or dealer? had a *huge* armed police response. He was probably suspected to be armed (if i remember correctly the dealer *was* armed). Makes no sense for me to go into a gun fight with a stab proof vest.

Regardless we will see what the solicitors say. Don't think they would persue without just cause.

Really does seem like the police can’t do their jobs I with idiots like BRE and his girlfriend about and all too happy to play the race card. if it had happened to me I would blame the criminals who cloned the car, not the police who are doing the job to protect the public and suspected a violent criminal on board.

I’d very much like to get my season ticket refund now in light of this. Not having my money going towards this case.

I agree that a club statement should have been put out but only to confirm they knew what had gone on and that it was a private matter.

Why the hell have the club got involved? If the club are incurring legal costs supporting what is a private matter, I shall be livid. Like others on here, I didn't donate my season ticket refund for the club to waste cash supporting Richards-Everton. The club need to issue a further statement clarifying the matter.

As I said in the beginning I don't think there was anything wrong from either side.

Just thinking out loud though now that the club have got involved.....are the club going to appoint Opus Law every time a white player gets pulled over as well?

The legal department at the club might be busier than the scouting team!
