Yep, if people don't use them they close. It is only when they have gone people moan eg Horse & Farrier has struggled for years was up for sale as a pub and no takers so was just sold as a building and was snapped up

I used to play on the building site when they were building the Farrier :worried:. Had one of first underage drinks there too

Kevin1954, the Malt Kiln shut its doors around a fortnight ago, and there's now a sign up saying "To let. Do you want to run this pub?". I mainly frequented the Robin Hood in my 20's & 30's, but that's now an ironmongers shop.

Black sheep isn't what it used to be, it seems to have become more of a dirty bitter than it used, perhaps my taste buds have been changed by Boltmeker. Saltaire Blonde is excellent, if a bit too citrus. The best blonde for me is Ossett. They do a nice bitter too, Butterley.

Rose & Crown on Westgate. Tetleys, and a nice pint of it, at £2.80

My time in the Robin was from 70's through to early 90's. Played for the football team and the darts & doms teams & was treasurer of the social club for a time. Great pub, particularly when Brian Hoddy, and later a scottish guy called Gus ran it.

Growing up on Fagley, the Smiling Mule was one of the nearer pubs. Never went in the Blue Pig though. And the pub between Leeds Road and Intake Riad (was it the Royal?) was horrible.

I've never been a Black Sheep fan at all. Far too bitter for my taste. If we're talking Masham beers then give me a pint of Theakson's Best Bitter any day. Far superior.
Saltaire Blonde is lovely. Goes beautifully with a ruby murray.

We moved up to King's Road in 1976, when they started work on the Farrier I
walked up and asked what they were building, when they said a pub I couldn't believe my luck.
If I remember rightly it opened in August 1978, so lasted just 43 years.
It was a good boozer back then, played a lot of pool and drank too much beer over the years, but it seemed to go downhill in the last few years.

Including me. Used to get the “pink” on a Saturday about 6:00PM. from Pollards paper shop on opposite corner and read all the football results and write ups in the “Robin”.

    About 1970.

My first visit and pint in a pub was in the Great Northern, Thackley as a 15 year old. We sent the biggest lad in our group to the bar. No ID required in those days, as opposed to my daughter still being asked occasionally in her late 20's!

Bloody hell, it's taken you long enough to work it out!

You must have missed my numerous posts about Essex, West Ham etc over the years.

We used to go to the Robin on Sunday dinner time, if you weren't in by 12.01 you didn't get a seat. Closed at 2 O'clock then too.
I remember when Brendan took over from Brian Hoddy, Brendan wasn't the most jolly of chaps, last saw him playing doms. in the Corn Dolly, he died quite recently.
Brian's daughters were always a pleasant sight behind the bar.

Enjoyed many a good pint in the Barkerend but sunk many more in The Red House when Stotty owned it them were the days queuing up out side on a Sunday to get a domino table in the tap room, and the waiter knew what you drank, wonderful days.

First beer at 15 years old in the "Wheatshelf" in Wakefield Road, no sooner had we got our beers than two bobbies walked through the door asking the bar staff and punters if anyone had seen any of the "Louthers" a pretty notorious family in the day, needless to say we supped off and went over the road to the "Railway Club" some cracking nights in there and cheap boozing.
