"Five councils with the biggest predicted shortfalls for 2025/26 account for a half-billion pound funding gap.

These are Hampshire County Council (£132m), Bradford City Council (£126m), Birmingham City Council (£119m), Somerset Council (£104m) and Leicester City Council (£90m)."

    T&A Report:

The articles suggest that significant cuts to council services are going to be implemented imminently.

A very sorry state of affairs.

It's pretty much the case with every council. Mine has also had to make a load of cuts (but not on councillors' allowances or other spending on council members, just things like shutting libraries and cutting bin collection while also investigating adding more types of bins and how they can charge for those; they already started charging for garden waste a year ago and if you don't pay for garden waste collection and put it in the normal bin they fine you).

And in most cases, it's for no reason other than poor money management as they have obviously all been jacking up council tax rates so they should have more money. Atleast where I am they have an excuse, they spent a massive amount on trying to regenerate the town centre which like most was dead into an entertainment area as well as putting money into other regeneration projects and infrastructure based on the benefits HS2 would bring but with it being scrapped they have spent all this money but the benefits that made this worth the outlay now don't exist

Maybe if they persued the council tax defaulters over the years and the none payment of driving fines etc it would be a start, as well as councilors giving their time for free.

    Speaking of bins

    https://www.thetelegraphandargus.co.uk/news/24599967.community-clean-ups-inadvertently-harming-recycling-rates/

We have a huge problem in Bradford with fly tipping and dumped rubbish around places like take aways. I commend the public for giving their valuable spare time cleaning up other people's mess for the betterment of public areas but Hinchcliffe claiming it's one of the reasons the council aren't meeting their recycling targets.
Don't bother giving your free time up to help, your part of the problem apparently.

Tip permits and closing tips can't be helping, both ideas brought in by Hinchcliffe and co. Most items that go to tips are items that can easily be split for recycling like cardboard, wood, metal, etc.

My thinking too. Could have got rid of Hinchcliffe and Ross Shaw and kept a tip or two open, damn sight more useful than those two pair of chancers.

Got an email this morning from the clowncil telling me that the mandatory permit I need to park outside my own house will from tomorrow cost £35 to renew. Another tax on top of it all to try help to save their bacon.

Is this in Ilkley? I'm guessing it's not in parts of the City where cars are double parked and dumped on pavements? What happens if family and friends want to come over, do you need extra permits for those?

Bradford Councillors are pathetic. Always have been and just getting worse. I wonder if any of those councils named above have been run by the same people for as long as HInchcliffe has been in charge of Bradford

I hate her and the rest of her cronies with passion

That's a pretty stupid question isn't it. What can I personally do about it, except probably not pay my council tax in protest, which then results in me being taken to court and I lose anyway. I have never voted for them and I don't know anybody who has done, so I can't suggest that

Why don't you suggest what joe public can do about it, seeing as you obviously have some sort of idea?

Who says I have an idea, I didn't.

You said you hate her and her cronies with a passion. Not enough passion to do anything though. Get on the campaign trail, start a petition or at least a Facebook group. Come on man, let's back up that passion with a bit of action.

All this rubbish about the council being on the brink of financial collapse, Hinchcliffe and Co decide the best way to pay for their inflated wages is to sell off assets for a pittance, and introduce parking charges to areas only that are predominantly frequented by white people. Does this not sum the idiots up to a tee?

Also just before the previous government was voted out, they pledged “exceptional financial support” to prevent Bradford council from going bust. Why has this now been withdrawn by Free Gear Kier and his cronies???

Certain people on here only want to bleat on about previous government when it suits their narrative, but have been unbelievably quiet of late as they know it is indefensible. Shock horror

hasn’t the funding been with held so far as when it was announced it hadn’t been actually costed properly, budgeted for or accounted for plus Bradford Council hadn't done their parts yet which were the introducing all the charging and selling of all the stuff.

so if the funding had been given it was coming out of the unfunded and unhedged black hole that the new government have talked about and contingent on the things you have just complained about the council doing

A bit like the funding for Airedale hospital, Shipley bypass and saving Bingley pool. Amazing what can be announced when you know an election is coming
