To be honest, I couldn't even see us thumping scunny 7.0 let alone at the end of a run like they had.

It was. As l said clutching at straws, once in a millennium etc etc.
Some other statisticians may have access to more teams who have had an equivalent poor start and then gone onto significant success.
At this level, l cannot recall any.

It was virtually the same Scunthorpe team that we played.
Full of young kids who looked absolutely lost and frightened to death of their surroundings.

We scraped a 2-1 win after being 2-0 up inside 5 minutes.

Unless a well placed wealthy suitor comes along out of nowhere, willing to pee money up the toilet wall then all the wishful ownership thinking is just that , until that gem of a manager turns up you rightly refer.
Something I have been saying an awful long time ,win, lose or draw. Rupp isn’t willing to gamble any further and as a result is protecting what he has, if people can’t see that now…….frankly they are deluded. I bet anyone any amount they like, that Rupp believes Sparks is doing a superb job because he’s not spending the owners money…..That’s his brief for sure. On that basis he is. It’s on the grass we are failing, no where else.

That's fair comment but I believe with a bit of tweaking a new.manager would get a better tune out of them. Players like MacDonald have played a high level all their career but we already had a similar sort of player. Actually the more you think of it we have made some strange signings. Ash Taylor for a start, we needed a quick centre back to complement a good ball player but very slow Stubbs.we bought an oil tanker. We dropped dependable players like Halliday for a relatively unknown young lad.

Agreed Dave. I’m surprised , if I’m honest , why he hasn’t got a consortium together . The only problem with that idea is that consortiums tend to manage by committee.

Sorry to be flippant but until these fictitious people turn up out of the blue we are where we are on the ownership front. It’s pointless stating the obvious, because we already know that’s the issue. You aren’t willing to diversify into buying the club , and neither am I. That’s why I don’t continually bleat about how someone else should spend THEIR money . Yet you do? Can you see the hypocrisy Fordy?

Ok, well if Rupp isn’t going to sell then he should be replacing Sparks! Let’s not make excuses for everything here.

Can you see the problems or can’t you see outside the manager?

Stockport were only on 8 points after 10 games last season and managed to get into the play offs
    upload_2023-10-1_14-45-33.png
The 20/21 season Bolton had 9 points after 10 games and got top 3, Tranmere had 9 after 10 and got top 7
    upload_2023-10-1_14-48-24.png

It looks like it's has happened a few times in recent seasons but still unlikely.

Im glad you don’t run my business . The CEO is operating the club to satisfy the owners needs, which is to sustain the club at current profitable levels without him having to put funds in, prior to a sale. If the same success was seen on the grass we would be laughing. Neither of us like it but the problem at the moment isn’t money or commercial activity…. it’s on the grass. Get that right and the club becomes a more attractive saleable asset. Until then we remain in limbo, as it’s clear as the sponge in your bucket , the owner does not want to invest further.

Whenever a new manager is appointed, its the nature of a football supporter to be optimistic and push any misgivings to the back of their mind.
On MH's appointment I was pleased and looking forward to watching his team play, however also aware he'd not actually done anything other than successfully keep clubs in respecful league positions despite his budgets.
A Stoke fan at the time mentioned he can make a team play adequately, however was lacking when having to build a squad.

Imagine when MH's was appointed, then coming coming on here saying he'd fail. The stick you'd have got !! Haha
Plus, folk don't like to say he'd fail, because you dont want to be correct, as you want the club to succeed!

I still think we missed out on the best manager “available” if we had sacked Hughes a few games ago. Darrell Clarke is the man but a little too late as he's gone to Cheltenham

But, I'd counter, if you're going along that path, then will you also add in all our matches in our first spell in Div. 2? It was only a two-tier league when we entered it, so all those matches also took place in the lowest, or bottom, tier!

3N was indeed the lowest/bottom tier until Div. 4 came about, but 3N still fed into Div. 2, like Div. 3 but unlike the new Div. 4 -- so in that sense 3N and 4 are not exactly equal even if they are the lowest/bottom tier in their times. Thus I'd keep 3N (and 3S) together with Div. 3.

Which, I suppose, just goes to show that terms like 'lowest' and 'bottom' might not be as clear or helpful as we think.

Re Sparks. Let's not forget he's a marketing guy yet crowds are dropping despite the official announcement. The club membership options are not the greatest with what you actually get and the Spain trip was a complete farce to put money in his mates pocket. Credit where it's due with the club being sustainable but that's not going to help up progress when we are paying thousands a week to dross like Taylor, Osadebe, Derbyshire etc
