Great performance after a dire first half. Super goal by Pointon. Should have kept him on, he was buzzing. Might be going against the grain, but I think Smith and Kavanagh are woeful. Too lightweight and not much skill or judgement between them. Was nice to see us trying to play football on the deck for a change rather than hoofing to Cook. If those front two improve, I can see them being first choice next season.

 

Once again the state of the officials have to be questioned. They are truly appalling at this level, and seem to get worse every season

The majority of lino’s always seem to be in their mid 50’s, can’t keep up to play, and never look where they should. For instance, there was a ball played down the touchline on the midland road side in the first half by a Tranmere player, it clearly bent into touch like a banana and came back in play to their attacker, but the lino totally missed it as he was trying to keep up with play. And expecting the ref to see it, well what a joke

Having said all that though, you can’t blame the officials for Smith being a terrible excuse for a striker. Was he another one sparks gave a 3 year contract to…?

 

It's baffled me too, especially the omission of Pointon. I mean it's not as though the more attacking players that he did select were playing out of their skins. Far from it, yet he continued to use a safety first policy IMO. . . . . you'll never win anything with kids.
We will never know. Small margins but put on just 3 or 4 points to our current tally, we would still be in with a fair chance of making the play offs.

 

I’m seeing him far too lightweight , and meat and drink for big mobile defenders. Hey opinions.

 

If he was invisible I would agree, as he would be steering clear of the big defenders but he is nearly always getting in the right position. His confidence is shot atm.

 

I believe Pointon was the sponcors MOTM, seems everyone and his dog gets a call on who was MOTM.

 

I think I commented at the start of the game Alexander was hoping for the kind of performance we saw against Wycombe, unfortunately Mansfield looked a far classier outfit than Wycombe on the day.

He's not a very good hold up player, very rarely looks to pop it off.
More likely to try and get into a shooting position or take on his man.

 

I believe at times its because we fail to do the positive possession football stuff for whatever reason, the opposition high press, lack of ability, frustration weve seen it all.

 

Whether it matters or not is another question in light of his output but I agree his onfield attitude is apalling. His lack of encouragement to team mates and his constant chipping away at team mates along with his disinterest in celebrating goals that he's not been involved in really irritate me.
