I’d be worried if I were Sparks, not that I think he’ll get sacked like. But he’s cost the owners business god knows how much money in having to pay managers off in his tenure, if I’d cost my company even a fraction of that sort of money I’d be shitting it every time I spoke with the owner. Especially when he turns up and sees that sort of incompetence on Sparks’ watch yet again.

Totally agree. The latest recruitment seemed to be all about getting bodies in the building with no strategic thought about what we actually needed.

It's also in complete contrast to what Spark's said the brief was this season about being leaner and meaner.

it should certainly be part of the role of the CEO to question the manager about what otherwise amounts to the manager's own recruitment policy rather than the club's. What size of squad is needed? Why do you need this particular mix of players? How does the recruitment impact on the way the team will play? What kind of age structure do we need within the squad? It's not for the CEO to tell the manager which particular player should be recruited but equally it isn't right for the CEO to simply allow the manager to spend the budget as he feels fit without checks and balances. He, the CEO, shouldn't be ignoring his own responsibilities to the club. In the absence of a DoF, the CEO has to take a longer term view than simply the tenure of the current manager.

I think it's was partly down to injury TB. He took a knock in the Crawley game and seemed to require physio attention in every game after. You could see he wasn't moving right and I just don't think he was allowed to let his body recover properly after Crawley. That's obviously due to us having no other options but flogging him on top of him not being fully fit was clearly affecting his performances which then affected his confidence once he's gone a few games with a goal.

MH's is a thoroughly likeable chap, he's media friendly and connects well with fans.
It was easy to part company with DA's, when it comes to MH's I will watch with an heavy heart.
I really hope all comes good.
However, I just can't see it happening, it will be sad to have to start again... But I'm sick of this league.
I don't even ultimately want Premiership footie, I'm happy with Championship footie, with tasty fixtures against the like of Leicester, Leeds Wed, Sheff etc..

    THE BREAKDOWN

    Bradford City: 7/10
    Draw: 11/4
    Harrogate Town: 15/4

Between them, Bradford City and Harrogate Town have registered just 9 combined goals across 14 total league fixtures. Both sides know that's not good enough, but neither side is showing signs of immediately breaking out from that form.

For City, injuries are a big problem at the moment, and team selection too seems to have been weighted in favour of pace and energy being deployed in the second half rather than the first. The idea might be that veteran striker Matt Derbyshire can act as a fox in the box, and with class the last thing to go, even if he's not physically up to the rigours of League Two football, if a chance falls to his feet he would no doubt back himself to take it.

Against Harrogate, that is possible. Harrogate Town have been defending manfully lately, blocking shots and defending crosses well. Bradford City, then, might be best served testing those attributes themselves, hoping for ricochets to fall to Derbyshire as he's unlikely to win the physical battles or provide an option of hold up play.

The two young loanees, Afoka and Tulloch, might be best brought on late once more, with their pace and trickery a potential key-to-the-door – but Afoka in particular looked a little too keen to impress, particularly with a late dive for which he was rightly booked. Efforts on goal rather than penalty appeals, please.

If none of that sounds too optimistic, at least Bantams fans know that Harrogate are even less deadly in front of goal, and that talented hitman Luke Armstrong has yet to score following the disappointment of his move to Wrexham falling through. Any doubts in Armstrong's mind will be fuel for the City centre back pairing of Matty Platt and Ciaran Kelly, who might be most likely to feature in a flat back four if Sam Stubbs is indeed out with a thigh problem.

The mantle of 'bogey team', too, evaporated last season for Harrogate as the Sulphurites lost both League Two ties against Bradford City, even if they did avenge one of them with an FA Cup victory sandwiched in the middle. Bradford City are still playing catch up, then. They've won just 2 and lost 5 of the 7 games the two sides have met in, but having seen a few of their squad players depart for Harrogate and get considerable game time, Mark Hughes' men must surely know victory is not just expected here – it's an absolute must.

Bradford City currently sit in 16th place, and while they've only lost twice (both on the road), even so much as a draw would be a sore spot for the expectant Bantams fans. Goals aren't easy to score against City, but nor are they easily scored by Bradford. While 0-0 might seem a safe bet on the surface, Bradford City absolutely must do what Gillingham did by hook or by crook.

A single goal will probably be enough; any more will be a welcome bonus. But for now, 1-0 is the pick, and it simply has to be against the side that have lost 4 of their last 5 league games.

    PREDICTION:

    Bradford City 1 – 0 Harrogate Town

And that is why, in my opinion, Hughes should either bring in an experienced, out of contract striker on a short term deal (as Wrexham have done with Fletcher - and that's with Mullin on his way back), or give the kid Youmbi his chance. Anyone except Derbyshire!

This is something that has also bugged me for years. You see opposition players moving around trying to make themselves available to the throw in taker, whereas our lot just seem to stand there and hope that the nasty round muddy thing goes to someone else. This is not, I should stress, unique to the present team, we have been like it for a very long time. I just wish I knew why.

They haven't played against our back 7 yet. Throw their shortest player into the box and cross it in, would solve that issue for them

Imagine if we take the handbrake off and we beat Betty's Boys 4-0. How embarrassing would that be for MH?

The handbrake had better remain on! ;)

Wow is the conversation about going on the front foot again a shite Harrogate side?

At home we should always be on the front foot now matter what.

I expect us to win at least 3-0 today.

There's being stubborn and being stupid I think with regards the Grimsby game at half time he made the right call don't you, even a stubborn manager could see and hear the frustration from the City fans, if he had not changed it and Grimsby had gone on to win the game that would have benefited no one, then IMO Hughes would fail and would fall into the category of being stupid.
He says in his interview above he believes if we had scored earlier we would have gone on to win the game pure conjecture on his part, so I'd respond with if Mark Hughes had made the changes earlier we quite possibly could have won the game but he chose not to for some reason, again pure conjecture on my part.
Today will be interesting IMO he will not start with the same formation or players as he did against Grimsby, he has to start Gilly if for nothing more than his attacking capabilities, I liked both Afoka and Tulloch for the way they were prepared to attack the Grimsby defenders, we await 2pm for the team news.

It's why I didn't blame the players for the first 45 minutes last week. They never stood a chance with the formation and instructions they were sent out with, literally hung out to dry by the manager. It's the question we were asking around us in the kop, how the hell can you try pass out the back or go long with that line up? It left the players looking far worse than they actually are.

Harrogate by far the worst team to come to VP in a long time. And they were beating us right to the death

Absolutely abysmal display from a team of no hopers. Not one of them comes out of that game with any credit. Not a single one of them

I said on deadline day that this squad is weaker and has much less attacking threat than last seasons squad, but I never thought I’d be proven right this quick

Turgid, depressing, frustrating. We’ll be in a relegation battle by Christmas

If anyone should step down and feck off, it is “mr I don’t accept mediocrity” sparks

That's the first time ever I've not jumped up and down to celebrate a last minute equaliser.

    Thoroughly depressing afternoon.

Hughes, Hodges and Gent out please

I've been critical of Hughes for a long time but it must be obvious to anyone that we aren't going to be promoted this year with him in charge. So what can we possibly gain by sticking with him for one game longer? His football is dire, our recruitment has been abysmal, his record as a manager is terrible, he's got the charism of a dead tortoise and he's clearly not got the confidence of the players. What more do you need?
