Though both full backs were excellent yesterday Richards has got real pace and is a threat and Halliday is player of the season so far

I gave Richards some stick last week, but as he himself said in mid-week, he sees himself as a wing back, and fair play to him, he had a very good game yesterday.,

I noticed lack of fitness last season. In many matches players were puffing and blowing at 70 minutes or earlier. This season it was even worse, the first couple of matches we looked like we hadn’t bothered with pre season training!! Locketti? implied that there would be no let up for any player, training would be hard and regular. It is unacceptable for full time professional players to be unfit. We need to press teams that come to VP to make space for our home game to be employed.we can’t do that if we are not fit. It is now noticeable that the majority of players are fitter, and hopefully that can continue. Cook in particular benefits from being fitter as we saw yesterday. Halliday and Gilliead were the exception, but they run on Bunny batteries, and are very fortunate human being naturally fit.

When you see him celebrating his goals you can understand why even with a new manager he may be reluctant to return to Valley Parade, yet on the other side once again when we scored yesterday it certainly wasn't with the passion we saw so many times last season the players just sauntered over to congratulate Smith.
A shame Kelly didn't bury that free header late in the game and take the anxiety from what time was left in the game.

    Good morning happy clappers.

Yesterday's game overall was crap.. we were equally poor as Accrington.

But at this stage... 3 points is all that matters.

I agree. Even after such a short time under Alexander. a number of our players looked a little fitter than before. Energy levels didn't reduce noticeably in the last 20 mins or so as we've seen recently

It was helped imo by Accy playing to our strengths at the back yesterday. Despite their lack of speed and agility, our back 3 are big and strong and can cope adequately with similar strikers. They struggle against pacier strikers but are more than a match for opponents in the muscle game. And Accy tried unsuccessfully to compete in the muscle game. Both Taylor and Kelly had a reasonable game yesterday. The real test will come when the same back three is faced with strikers who use their pace better. Then I suspect we'll be found lacking again.

Do we know IF Young can return in January? Maybe they’ve got an extension clause. TBH, I can see a bit of a Doyle situation happening if he does come back. I’d also be gutted if I was him. Nice partnership, regular goals and victories…and the having all that ripped up and starting again. Not good for morale.

He can return in January, it will cost us a “small fee” Hughes stated. Swindon will not be happy as it was a season long loan. I would love him to come back ready willing and more than able to fire us up the table, but I doubt that will be the case.

Flynn is expecting him to leave in January. He said 'The better he does, the less chance of us having him over the second half of the season'.

Absolutely right …too many unknowns in bringing him back. You are perfectly right I’m not a fan, but hey opinions.

Where I see the issue of him returning
He possibly may not get along with the squad coming in as “Billy big nuts”.
He may not get game time
He may not fit in our line up which is settling into a 5-3-2, with Halliday and Richards floating the flanks. He’s not a “ 9”, he lacks pace to be an 8. He’s not a midfielder.
He may not take to GA, remember Trueman still does the coaching!

The above aside, where would he fit , first things first?

We’ve now played all of the top 7 and being honest none of them have stood out, all equally as shite as we are in reality.
We’d have pissed this league if only the recruitment hadn’t been so gash.
Who’s to blame for that? Rupp? Sparks? Gent? Hughes?

I think Notts county just concede too many goals, even with our disastrous performance last week we could have scored four ourselves.

At least 4. Cookie could have had 4 on his own.

And they conceded 4 yesterday despite having 70% possession.

No, we made them look better in that awful first half. The second half was a better comparison and yesterday they got battered by Wimbledon, another team we’ve beaten.
So I conclude, we could have pissed this league with a bit of ambition in recruitment over the summer.

Entirely down to Hughes he spread the money to thinly. A bit more quality over quantity
