Thank Christ the relevant authorities changed the back pass rule. Got to be up there with one of the best rules that benefitted the game.

Aye quite a few memories there !
I played in schools cup final on that VP pitch just a few months after the tooting game ( Easter just after the QF defeat to Southampton.
I also had Don Hutchins play worn shirt in that brilliant white kit with the one claret and one amber stripe. Unfortunately wore it until it fell apart....

And was that big Joe Cooke up front ?
    Ah the memories .....

I love the state of the pitch, the penalty box area in front of the Kop is a real mud bath.

First game I saw was mid 70's - was City v Torquay, it was a 3-3 draw, was stood in old Midland Road shed, pitch was atrocious and if I remember rightly Gary Watson scored a hat trick for us (and I dont know why but think one of their players also scored a hat trick - Barney Fletcher is deep in my memory for some reason??).
Got me hook, line and sinker that day

Your memory has let you down! No 3-3 draw according to the records! https://www.11v11.com/teams/bradford-city/tab/opposingTeams/opposition/Torquay%20United/

I believe you are thinking of City v Stockport in 1976, 3-3 and two hatricks - Barney Daniels?

You have got me Bigrod and Stafford, many thanks for correcting my fading memory mate  Got part of it right (scoreline and a Barney getting 3 for them!) I seem to recall Gary Watson wading through the mud for one of his goals - he was clean through, but he never seemed to get any closer - like running in treacle.
I was correct though in being hooked on City for life!;)

I'd have been at those matches but bugger me, did we all really cram into that old Midland Road stand?
If you were more than four feet back from the wall you had no chance of seeing anything to left or right of an imaginary clock face showing ten to two.
