I liked Stockport away. Black Surridge shirt that disfigured your face pulling on due to tight neck. Ooh Adebola. A prolific Dean Windass. Happy days.

Edit: that black shirt was actually the season after. 2004/5 was the year we won 1-0 at Edgeley Park early season.

City team that day; Henderson, Horrorway, Bower, Wethers, Emanuel, muirhead, schuey, Crooks, Summerbee (underrated), Deano, Adebola

Kevin Francis the long streak of pee .......... he always seemed to cause us some right damage .............glad there back along with Grimsby they will give us a decent amount of tickets and both will bring decent followings ............. not like the majority at this level sadly

 

I was present at Valley Parade on Saturday 18th September 1965, on a freezing day with torrential rain, when we lost 7-1 at home in the league against Stockport, 3 days after we'd lost 7-1 away to Crewe Alexander. Not surprisingly we finished next to bottom in Division 4 that season. Those were the days.

 

Frequented Cont and HitW as a youngster. Bottles of Coke a tanner. Still love Soul and Tamla to this day.

 

I always remember the games between Ian Ormandroyd and Kevin Francis 2 beanpole strikers and also that Stockport played in purple

Luke Beckett was a pain again us all the time too.

Bridge-Wilkinson came off the bench for them when we won there in 2004. Liked him at City, a tidy little player alongside Schuey.

 

Was it 2002 when Stockport got relegated from what is now the Championship, only winning about 4 games all season but beating us home and away?

I remember it chucking it down on a Tuesday night at Edgeley Park and us giving the team absolute pelters at full time, don't think I'd ever seen anything quite like it from City fans at the time.

 

Despite Stockport spending the last 11 years in the National League (and NL North) they are one of only 3 teams that we have met over 100 times in the league
Port Vale have faced City 105 times (would have been 106 if not for Covid) Oldham 104 and Stockport 102
Our record against County is not that great having won 34 drawn 23 and lost 45 scoring 142 goals against 161

 

I remember the promotion season of 1999 when Stockport beat us on the opening day but then in the away game Peter Beagrie rattled one in off the crossbar and post. Got pissed wet through that day on the open terrace. Hope they’ve got a roof now

Soul and Tamla still a love of my life along with Stax of course.Like you guys, did the Cont and HITW..for me in the mid to late '60's. Someone mentioned the Vaults bar in the Alex and I remember Kevin Hector frequenting the place.

 

Yes welcome back, a good addition to L2 without doubt, an actual proper football club coming up is good to see especially instead of some millionaires Wrexham play thing, hope Grimsby come up also.

 

Didn't Francis end up a police officer in Canada or summat?

 

I remember the Stockport game at VP when Stockport went down to 9 men, we missed a penalty, were losing 2-1, and scored a 90th minute winner in front of the kop. One of my all time favourite City games!
Would love to see the highlights again.
