This is being sold by auction, on behalf of Bradford Railway Circle this coming Saturday:

I'm sure there will be one or two rail enthusiasts on here, who can provide more detail but, as I understand it, this is from a B17 steam engine. A large number of these were named after football clubs and 61668 was named Bradford City. Bradford City was the very last of this series of steam engines to be withdrawn and scrapped. I believe each engine carried two of these plates (with a single spare held by the railway).

If I remember my Bradford City history correctly, the three nameplates ended up with Bradford Railway Circle, Bradford City and a private collector. I understand that Bradford City's nameplate was stolen and the one present at Valley Parade nowadays is a replica.

So, this one, one of the originals, is being auctioned by GW Railwayana at Pershore High School on Saturday 16 November and this is lot 350.

I've had a quick dig around and it seems that these sort of engine nameplates range from a few thousand pounds up to around £20,000, with the odd famous one going for a lot more.

As a guide this Manchester City nameplate sold for £18,000 last year.

So, who's going to buy this?

Come on Fordy. Get your bid in, lets see it going to a genuine City fan. I'm sure a wealthy businessman such as yourself can afford it

I do hope you mean the steam train itself.

I'd happily throw £20K at it but there are three 6's in that number. I'm superstitious. I'll let Fordy pin it on his Merc.

Interestingly the loco seems to have spent most of its working life on my line

To be fair there could be that many bidders it’d be hard to keep track

Would be brilliant if the club could buy it and exhibit it in the 1911 suite or some other suitable place. Sadly i think this is unlikely. Wish there was more time, I'm sure we could have somehow bought it between us.

Amazing prices that loco nameplates go for.
I bet the entire engine went for scrap for less than a grand.

We already have one of the set at ground floor of the entrance to hospitality and have had it for many years since it came off the loco.
