Shame on you. The only reason you have the freedom to type shite like that on an internet forum is because of the sacrifices made by the 'over 90s' in this country.

Stupid decision for me. It only needs one player or official from any team to be infected, pass it on to others, they in turn pass it on to family members etc etc and the whole lockdown starts all over again.
Football is not the be all in life and should not restart until the whole country is clear/safe again.

it isn’t funded by paying in for 50 years. A majority of it comes from tax and NI paid in that year. It isn’t like a personal pension where your payments are invested. The money coming in now is paying the pensions due now

Another big issue which Gary Neville brought up. Let’s say last game of Season Leeds need to win to secure title, how can you guarantee there wouldn’t be hundreds if not thousands of fans outside the stadium? The exact same issue with Liverpool.

Boris won enough votes recently to blow Labour out of the water. He’ll be the PM for a good few years to come so I don’t think votes are his main concern right now. What he needs to do next is fathom a plan to get people back into work and businesses open again ASAP before the UK economy dies beyond repair for decades.

Every generation has its own set of challenges and it may be difficult for others to relate to. I accept that. In a sense, younger children have the challenge of Social Media that older generations won’t fully understand. I get that. But pound for pound, is it really mentally tougher? A few weeks of having to stay in, being able to Skype your mates, watch netflix and still get food delivered to your door, versus storming a Normandy beach under a hail of machine gunfire and artillery? I know thats an extreme example, but I know which looks mentally tougher to me. I think we’re becoming physically and mentally damaged across society. It might take something like this pandemic to reset many facets of how we work, live and think.

A normal recession and recovery will start when furlough ends. Many shops and restaurants that were already struggling with the start of recession before the virus hit will not reopen. Many consumers are paying bills on credit cards and companies are running up interest-free loans but these still have to paid off so they will constrain spending when the virus is gone. Okay, GDP might drop to 70-80% of previous in March, April and May, and so must start to recover but it will not bounce back to 100% this year. Ad spending been slashed by 80%. Capital expenditure has been slashed hard. Some companies will restart to find suppliers have gone bust. Directors will be cautious with money when work restarts so only the most urgent spending will be authorised. Corporate spending won't return to normal overnight. They'll be trying to reduce costs to match lower revenues, and it will take time. Many will come back from furlough to find their jobs are then axed because a lot of consumer and corporate spending has dried up and overheads need cutting, as in a normal recession. And that's without the worry of a second wave of the virus, which is distinctly possible.

I seem to be siding with Fordy. I must go have a lie down.

Just the poor that will suffer way more than they normally do. Won't make a blind bit of difference to the rich or talentless twats in celeb world. Their worlds will not be affected, although you'd think they were the most hard done by judging by the crap they spout on social media. The vulnerable will suffer greatly because of this, its then we will see the true colours of Johnson and the rich elite he represents.

I really hope the lockdown won't go on for many more months but in reality it might.

The economic ramifications are being felt right across our society every minute of the day.

I shudder to think of the residual damage that has already been caused not just financially but mentally. I know a fireman who attended 3 suicides last week when they normally attend 1 a month.

This virus has stripped back the layers of protection we thought we had to reveal a very fragile world around us.

Very true. This is exposing the problems of the psychology that now underpins of society. Something is very wrong. I've seen a number of suicide stories relating to young people who've 'struggled with being isolated'. Not people who've had serious impacts through loss of businesses built up over a lifetime for example. Teens and 20 somethings who simply cant cope when their normal routines of being able to engage with people. I know it's tough, but when you compare it to sacrifices made by previous generations, it really isnt in the same ball park.

We will recover from this. Yes there will be hardship for most people including us who brought our families up with at the outset spiralling inflation then huge rates of interest on our mortgages and now afte a lifetime of hard work almost zero interest on our savings. So you won’t be alone

Yeh good luck with that, we’re seeing how well not telling people to go out is working in some areas. The cost of police would be a ridiculous spend considering they’re needed for far more important things than football at the moment.

No it wasn’t it was a fair point, but not as fair as the one Tony is making above. Should one player show symptoms a full team would have to stop and potentially any team they recently played. The stupid point is by the EFL thinking there’s a chance of it happening soon.

I said the same last week. Of course it'd increase risk. Liverpool winning the league after 30 years? Leeds going back up to the PL after 20? Theres no way that all those fans are going to obey social distancing rules. It's not necessarily a case of 50k turning up at the ground, but the amount of gatherings, house parties, pub lock ins etc would go up massively. Weve already seen that people are gathering for no apparent reason. Over 400 house parties in 4 days broken up in manchester.

It all needs to be factored in. And theres the indirect consequence too. How do you convince a self employed plumber that he has to keep away from work, racking up debt, when it's ok for footballer to go about their business? Not happening. In 2 months, people will be way more desperate than they are now, financially. I just dont see behind closed doors games working. Not unless there are other relxations of social distancing that negate risks like the ones above. Football just isnt that important.

Have to agree and it’s something I didn’t even touch on, sports people/celebs are going to have to lead by example on this one. No way can someone on £50k per week be allowed to continue on his work when as you say waiters, bar staff and small business owners and the like continue to struggle.
Just because we won’t necessarily have the same lockdown measures as we do now in a few months time doesn’t mean we’ll be anywhere near back to normal.
Most likely even in 2 months a hundred plus will still be dying everyday if not more, they won’t reduce social distancing rules something contact sport needs.
And we all need to follow the same rules, otherwise people will just say if footballers can touch each other why can’t we go within 2 metres of people and crowd on public transport, then you risk a new outbreak.

Just to throw another inconvenient point into the mix. If the idea is that games will start in around 2 months, behind closed doors and subject to testing, it's almost certain that we wont have tested all NHS workers by that point. So we're testing footballers so they can play, but not NHS workers. That's the plan is it? Right. Yeah.
