but this sort of thing has been going on since football started - doing stuff to get a rise from the oppo. What Paudie did was react in a way he's not supposed to (and the FGR player knew it), and broke the rules, which you're not allowed to do. Souness was going on yesterday about the handball and the penalty in the Man U game, and said it wouldn't have happened in his day, but admitted that rules are now rules, and you have to stick to them. Paudie didn't have to lead with his head, no matter what "contact" there was. It was unfortunate that the player was positioned right next to the hoardings, and had a great opportunity to make a massive meal of it in a dramatic fashion, which he did to great success. If that had happened in the middle of the park, he'd have gone down also, and despite it not looking so theatrical, Paudie would still have got sent off, because he led with the head - which is against the rules. The FGR player didn't break any protocol, our player did.

 

FGR are a big side and we knew it was going to be an aerial bombardment, I thought he might have brought someone on for Guthrie but with him being 6ft+ it was better he stayed on the grandson said Novak did very well when he was brought back to defend.

Just seen highlights,what about their number 10 barging into paudie then following him round trying to get to him,he even pushes him with both hands after he's been sent off,i'd have chinned him as well

Why didn’t Stuart run down the clock by making the 3rd substitution before he had to?

I know in hindsight it was fortunate that we had one left with the Staunton injury, but when the added time clock got to 4 minutes, he could have wasted 2 with a substitution before that.

 

I bet all those clubs we turned down offers from are really envious !!!
If anyone believes we turned down offers for him they need to give their head a good shake

Do you really think that Teflon deliberately put out a weak team, players in wrong positions, to play in a formation that was designed to show our weaknesses and, very possibly, result in a defeat?

If there is even a whiff of that he should be immediately shown the door.

That is tantamount to gross misconduct.

It was simply his modus operandi. He tinkers constantly so yesterday is something we have seen in every one of his spells.

He has been working with, looking at these players for 8 months. He has brought in or resigned (his decision) a number of players but still doesn't seem to have the foggiest idea what the plan is. He even claimed yesterday that he had only been looking at them for 6 or 7 weeks.

You know I don't rate him so I would bite the bullet now and go for the Cowley Bros.

 

I didn't see it that way myself, not suggesting for one minute anyone was great on the day but if nothing else Guthrie did a job when we went down to 10 and then 9 defending high ball in, Mccall knew what was coming and kept Guthrie on, were as Zeli offered nothing.

Why do you keep mentioning the formation? I haven't mentioned it once in my replies.

I'm talking about the self made problem of playing players out of position, I couldn't care less what the formation was.

 

If McCall does not want to play Zeli as an out and out winger his natural position , then I'd suggest he's playing him a different formation wouldn't you ?.

 

I can't remember now, but after the game, McCall said something about certain things having to happen, if players are going to be coming in to the club. Almost sounded as though we're going to have to shift some players, to get some in. Can't find a link to the aftermatch interview on BBC Leeds to make sure, but I remember at the time thinking, hmm that sounds a bit odd.
