No Stuart was right because we didn’t make best use of the wind first half we should have made it pay

 

That is the nature of anything you are trying to improve, it is very unusual to get to where you want to be without setbacks and bumps in the road. Chin up,

 

You are going to have to explain the "No Stuart was right..." bit to me because I feel that bringing McCarten off and replacing him with a defender was the turning point. It allowed Cambridge to dominate even more than they were and put us on the back foot completely.

I get it, it is one game and only 3 games in to his third coming but in what way was Stuart right in his changes today?

There is a strange feeling of last year at the moment. Then as the matches ran down you kept thinking we will have to put a run together soon or we’re going down. Af present you’re saying the same about getting into playoffs. I’m beginning to think this run is not going to come. Port Vale are doing what we should be doing. Basically Stuart has been left with a totally unbalanced squad. In three matches he’s been within minutes of getting all nine points but structural weaknesses in the team and the squad have let him down.

 

OK. Let's not get too defensive. I am not a McCall supporter. I do not believe he is a good manager. I do not think that he is the right appointment...all that is out there in the public domain for anyone to see

It doesn't take away from the question, the debate or that we should, as much as possible, objectively review his performance.

Instead of trying to deflect from the performance by focusing on me I would appreciate an answer to my question.

So.... What was right about the changes McCall made today? if he takes credit for the changes on Tuesday does he carry the can for the changes today?

AOC to BRE you stay middle

They took off a fullback and stuck another big man up top. At the time I thought Stuart made the right call bringing on Paudie. He had to do something. We were under the cosh. We needed to score more in the first half when the wind was in our favour. That is not hindsight or quoting Stuart. I posted that on here about five mins before half time. Those who think Stuart got it wrong might say what he should have done.

 

Lot of McCall blame

We've now blamed 2 managers. Think it's about time blame shifted to non performing players.

And tactical ineptitude. Like you I feel completely deflated tonight. A win could have put us right in the mix but instead we are left with the almost inevitable prospect of no promotion and midtable mediocrity. Up to that substitution I was prepared to convince myself that Stuart might be a different proposition this time around and that greater experience would have made him wiser. And then bang, in that one moment, in that one substitution, I realised that all my misgivings had been justified. He really has learned nothing in all the years he's been a manager. No greater tactical awareness, no better game management, no understanding of how games are won and lost. People might say that this is an overreaction and they may have a point. But I can't escape the conclusion after today that nothing has changed with him and that the future will just be an elongated rerun of the same film. We won't go up. We'll have a big clearout in the summer. Stuart will sign a brand new team, we'll make a bright start, people will sing his praises and then, steadily, remorselessly, it will all go wrong. Again.

 

I would love it, love it! If Stuart got it right. Night all.

I'll be honest, I think Akpan is getting some unfair stick tonight. Granted he's shite more often than not but today I thought he had a really good game. Well, in the first half anyway because everyone was poor in the second. But in the first, I though he did everything, tackled well and made some good passes.

 

We'll see.

 

Not sure people are hammering McCall, most of us are glad he’s back but if he makes an error he should be open to criticism as anyone else. I agree with you though on the squad, it was vastly overrated by some who thought it was as simple as sacking Bowyer. Just because it’s a poor league doesn’t mean you walk it, we’re 4th division Same as the other 23 teams. And it’s an awfully unbalanced squad, with little quality even at this level.

 

Can't remember the last time Paudie played and didn't make a mistake. Yet again, horrendous defending for their last goal.

 

Were at our 60s weekend so plenty going on to take my thoughts off the defeat.
