The playoffs should very much still be our aim. Newport were unimpressive and despite our limited creativity, we should still have taken 3 points tonight. But if we don’t get the playoffs, we haven’t failed - when you consider where we were in December. That said, NEXT seasons aim should be top 3. We should be going out to get the 3 or 4 quality players that would take us to being capable of a proper top 3 push. We’re still a few players short, and T&S are still learning.

I thought we were playing the better football earlier in our run and in the last 4 or 5 games we seem to give the ball away sloppily (we were better tonight in our passing) but you are spot on with we need to play at a greater speed to pull the opposition around to create chances.

I'd agree. I think we're a better team than Newport, to be honest. If we'd started this season with this setup, we'd certainly be top 7. Bolton looked a cut above anything I've seen in this league this season, and Tranmere look to be in great form, but that aside, its a poor league. With 3 or 4 of the right additions in the summer, we'd be top 3 material. In particular, we need a top Central Midfielder, more creativity from the wide positions and I expect we'll need another striker, unless Cook and Novak both stay, but we're not a million miles away. I also think we've got 3 or 4 gears yet to go through as a team. Defensively, we're usually excellent. The spirit in the side is top notch too, and we finally have goalscorers in Cook and Rowe. Its the cohesion and build up play that needs work. We had a spell last night where we looked so comfortable between our goal and their first, but that control didn't really create any chances. That sort of control over a 25 min spell needs to create 3 or 4 good chances. If we go 2-0 up, they don't get back into it.

Some of you lot are mental. It's one defeat, which happened with the last kick of the game, against the run of play.

The only other defeat we had under Trueman and Sellars was also against a team in the top 6/7, away from home.

Apart from that the improvement and form has been nothing short of Top 3 standard.

We'll get the wheels back in motion on Saturday - this is a cracking exciting City team we've got here who are playing really well!

Whinge whinge whinge man, get a grip some of you

I don’t get where some fans are coming from that we are some free flowing possession based side suited to good pitches as we were under McCall in 16/17, we often have less of the ball than our opponents and poorer pass accuracy. I’d say we are more a hard working counter attacking team, sure we have the odd passage of nice play but not sustained like Bolton did or Newport did to us earlier in the season although we are a lot harder to play against now.

I think the pitch suits them more than us if they are anything like they were when we last met, that said I think they’ve lost a fair few key players.

Bolton were just better than us for 45 minutes, we don't need to press the panic button. Lets stop worrying about conditioning, muscle tone, training schedules. Just go back to what we do well and respect posession. Maybe bring in Gareth Evans for a bit of balance in place of Vernam or Crankshaw. If we gift Newport posession like we did Bolton we are our own worst enemies. Thats the only part we need to worry about.

Dust down. Move on. 47 points from 32 was IMPOSSIBLE after 16.

Yeah, it felt like we were trying to go through the motions once we had the lead.

No intention of keeping our on-form strikers on the pitch, accepting clumsy fouls all over the pitch, wayward shooting, wasteful corners...

We are very unlucky to lose, but even so, there's a ton of stuff we need to work on.

We can't just ride our luck every game, we're not invincible.

Both Truman and now Evans questioning the referees decision for the free kick and the penalty, it was a soft free kick that Cook gave away BUT if you go for a 50/50 ball around the box there is always a chance you can get punished, an the penalty how anyone could claim that was off Sutton's shoulder is beyond belief.
An old adage but never the less true, we dust ourselves down and go for the 3 points at Carlisle.

I think it has all been said. We do not impose ourselves enough on the game in midfield. Out passing is too slow, too laboured, we do not move it quickly enough. We need to learn to play at a greater speed. If we did that we would pull the opposition around and create chances which are not doing at the moment.

If we lose at Carlisle and the points gap becomes 10, the play offs will be well out of our reach.

Despite the excellent run under Trueman and Sellars, we simply are not good enough yet to go up.

We have a decent base to build on for next season, with the right recruitment, we should be aiming for top 3 next season

Let themselves down? We've lost 2 in 16, automatic promotion form. Only you could put such a negative slant on whats happened since T & S took over.

We've lost 2 games in 16. That is not a poor losers mentality. A poor losers mentality was losing 6 on the bounce. The last game we lost against Exeter, what happened? Yeah thats right we won 5 on the bounce. I think that knocks your losers mentality well truly out of the park.

And if they aren't happy with that, they can just agree to hand us the 3 points and save themselves a journey. :shifty:
