Match Thread Away V Mansfield Sat 21st Aug @ 3.00pm

Looked well off the pace early on but got better as game went on, clearly far from match fit but you could tell late on in game he will be vital for us when fully up and running.

 

Just wait until he gets match fit. His break up play was excellent, but slightly less mobile than is normal for him compared to previous vids I have seen of him last season

There was one passage of play around 21 mins where he forced his way between two players on the right by the dug out and he did a sideways flick thus releasing Watt(?) to charge upfield.

What an asset he will be when fully fit imho.

Watching quest this morning they thought Clough's comments where tongue in the cheek and rather amusing. He would have addressed them in the dressing room directly.
Anyway watched match of the day also this morning. Man City do copy our style of attacking football.

He is actually better at centre half apparently, Clough trying to cover up for his mistake in selecting him at right back to try and stop Vernam

 

A special mention to ROD yesterday. Yet again during the match thread he was getting unjust stick, not sure why?.

Hats off to him for the brilliant save from Hewitt to prevent Mansfield scoring a late winner, instead 30 seconds later, it was the Bantams fans cheering a late winner

 

Well he certainly makes me feel nervous just watching him never mind playing in front of him..

 

He dropped a couple of big standard crosses nearly resulting in a goal. The save doesn't disguise that fact.

 

The win yesterday shows the attitude of what Adams has instilled in this squad. There was little between the two teams and a lot on here would have been happy with the point. But Adams wants more from this squad, winning those type of games yesterday is the difference between playoffs and automatic promotion.

 

I’ve been saying it for years that having a manager who worried about the opposition rather than focusing on our strenghts was the problem. We haven’t had that since the PP days. I hope Stuart McCall looks back and has plenty of regrets because I would have loved this to be his team.

 

Stuart was too damn nice. With his career I would he wouldn't have any regrets, sometimes good players don't make good managers noatter what you try to do.

 

Captaining city in the PL promotion team was the pinnacle of his career, overshadowing anything he did at Rangers in that tinpot league. As a manager he struck me as someone who wouldn’t stand any player to earn more or to be more popular than him and therefore was reluctant to bring in well known names on decent money.
That’s the primary reason he failed once the PP squad he inherited was gone.

 

The away fans sound like Muppets every time I hear about them

Why is that

 

Agreed first half he dropped a few thankfully it didn’t cost us, felt more composed second half and made a few good catches from crosses as well.

I was going to mention that save myself but know better than to bother giving him praise on here, fantastic save and the score would have been 3-2 Mansfield without him simple as.

His kicking feels more consistent this season as well with his orders to kick it far and straight rather than out to the wingers or not knowing to play it short or long, amazing what simplifying tactics can do for players at this level.

Can't agree with your thesis regarding Stuart having players more popular than him or earning more than him. He's the most self deprecating man I've ever had the privilege of meeting. The man would put anybody before himself and was always reluctant to take praise, instead directing applause to players and other members of staff.
I still love the bloke and will always regret that it didn't work for him as our manager.
