Your absolutely right best summing up of this signing I've seen!

I don't think a player of his experience is coming to sit on the bench. I think Hughes sees him and Stubbs as a centre back partnership. I think Platt will end up back up.

Haven't seen a single positive comment from Northampton, Walsall or Tranmere fans about this guy and they can't all be wrong.

Squad filler I guess as I can't see him dislodging Platt and Stubbs. Hopefully we start signing some quality who will improve the starting XI.

I think that is a good case for the whole summer transfer policy. Only way you can tell if a signing works is after watching them for a few months. As long as we bring in a quality midfielder who can dictate the middle of the park and decent quality to supply Andy Cook i think we'll be there or there abouts. Well, as long as our manager doesn't bottle the play offs again.

If he is slow and past it, he is a perfect fit for our defence.

My take is we need at least 4 CBs in the squad, and given Odusina seems out of favour, we were always going to sign one this window.

Given we have Stubbs and Platt who'll start, we were never going to splash the cash on this position.

He'll bring experience, the potential to chip in with goals, and good cover from the bench, and the option to play in a back 3.

The big wages in the squad will be spent on 1st team positions we actually need aka attacking positions.

    It's a solid signing.
You might be right. But my main point being we didn't need to sign a marquee central defender given we've already got two capable starters. The money is better spent elsewhere in my opinion.

I wouldn't read too much into other fans comments. It's league two he doesn't need to be a world beater, 6'4 so should be very decent in the air, and Scottish premiership experience so should be able to slot in nicely.

Many of our decent centre halfs have come to us with no massive fanfare, and done a solid job for us.

Rational. Boringly sensible comment. But you need to rant a bit more about how underwhelming the signing is blah blah.

Some of our fans don't seem to understand that for the first time, well I can remember, we only need a three or four gems (or even less). Plus a few 'good uns' to boost the squad.

Thats a fair comment. To be fair Stubbs and Platt did well together and now with this lad i can't see any more CBs coming in. The smart money needs to go on the mobile midfielder to partner Smallwood.

I think it's incredibly naive to ignore such comments, especially when he's been disliked at three clubs. That's like other fans ignoring us when we say the likes of Josh Wright and Hope Akpan are a disgrace.

You sound like there are just 8 days of the transfer window left as opposed to around 80.

Let's remember that at this time in 2012, neither Jones, Nathan Doyle or Garry Thompson had signed.

A don't get this panic. It's mid-June. History has shown it makes not a shred of difference when you sign players (there is no correlation between early signings and best seasons) it's who you have by around mid-August.

When was the last time we signed a player that had a glowing report from the fans of other clubs they'd played for?

Tyrek Wright was deemed as 'meh' during his other L2 loan spells as well. It's largely irrelevant what other fans say. They're always slagging of ex-players - particularly if they've had a frustrating few seasons, as Tranmere and Walsall have.

Not all the time. I remember fans warning us when we signed the useless Akpan and Wright, their resumes looked good with game time in higher divisions but turned out to be two of the worst players i've ever seen. And to be fair when we signed Sam Stubbs the comments were generally very positive regarding his attitude and skill level.

Height. Experience has scored goals and captain at Kilmarnock so must have leadership qualities so for a back four player what is underwhelming about that

Don’t think players figure in so many games without ability but as with every signing even if they are deemed good or underwhelming it’s the proof of the pudding that will count

I would agree if its one club. But it's three and they're all saying the same things.

conversely I think its stupid to write a player off based on said comments too. Most fans are a fickle bunch.

There are a lot of positives to this signing he was offered a contract by Kilmarnock so I wouldn't write him off before seeing him play.
