Do you believe that? How many football league clubs do you think onw their own training ground?

Really? The place they spend most of their time and is a large part of how they would improve?

    It's a dump.

We're a professional football team not a pub team. It's a school field no matter how you dress it up.

100% agree. Think the club deep down know they need a training ground and are a little embarrassed but don't want do it so say figures like 5m(we could build a training ground for less than 5m) to scare fans off going on about it when it's clear that training at a school isn't acceptable in 2020.

Other teams are building new training grounds and advancing.

Do you genuinely believe players will have turned us down because of our training facilties, I would be amazed if thats the case.

I would guess that our pitch is more likely to be a reason. But even then, I would imagine the terms of their contract is the biggest factor on whether we could attract a player or not.

Didn't say i was. I was talking about the office.

I'm not sure it's a fair assumption that a private school with an obvious focus on education will have sports facilities which are perfectly suitable for a professional club. Could be, might not. Definitely aren't today.

This isn't a current story but the reaction of the board member as opposed to the footballer is probably most important.

I went to "A night with the Hendrie's" event at VP year ago when Lee Hendrie played and he was on a panel with John and Mark Lawn.

Lee told a story of how we'd got a loanee from a Championship club who in his first training session had gone for a sliding tackle and got covered in dogshit because people were obviously walking their dogs over what was basically a public field outside of training hours. Because at the time the players were getting changed at VP none of the players would let him in their cars after training and he had to get a taxi back. He couldn't believe that players in lower leagues actually accepted this as a standard to which the response in the dressing room was "They don't at 'normal' places"

Mark Lawn went into a typical rant about pampered football players wanting everything and knowing nothing of real life. To which both John and Lee rolled their eyes as if they'd heard it all before.

But no. I can't imagine players being bothered about such minor things as where they learn their craft. Might as well give up on Apperley Bridge and train at Peel Park. Cheaper I suppose.

The 4G pitch looks like it is. The fields further away from the main road are underwater. Not sure about the ones closer to the road.

I think that decision may depend on what league they are in next season but you're correct it would be classed as an asset, personally I'd rather have players in my squad who could be an asset and own the ground before new training facilities.
Someone posted it's the 4th time in around 20 years, maybe we should try for a grant from the government to get better flood defences ;).

I thought everything was plain sailing for clubs who owned assets, obviously not.

Exactly, I would be worried that an asset would go the same way as the ground went if the club were in financial straits. If I win the lottery lol, I would buy the ground back and provide state of the arts training facilities, but I would want to put them both in trust so that no one could sell them off.
