Even if we got someone like Hosanna from L**ds (which personally I doubt - think City is being blamed for rushing him back and exacerbating his original injury) he's not the finished article. AOC for me has 2 or 3 years at CB, DM or emergency RB. Good age, good experience, wants to be here. No brainer. IMHO

The other difference is that I'm not suggesting I should receive a contract offer just because I "love the club".

Clarke would have done well to make the pass for Cooks volley when he was sat on the bench.

Yet the post you were first quoting from was about Clarke.

Have you been drinking? Not a single sentence in that reply makes any sense.

I still think Clarke offers something. That was the crux of the point. His game management is better than Vernam and Crankshaw. So irrespective of his community work or goal/assist record, he’d get a new deal for me - on back up terms as he won’t start.

It makes sense to me, surely you can work it out being the clear intellectual genius you are.

AOC - Really upped his game of late and showed a lot of consistency in his performances, we could do a lot worse. Wages would need to be realistic however as he is firmly entrenched in L2 now.

He has "upped his game of late" - I think we'd all agree he's done well recently but that is also the problem.

He's one of our highest paid players and was on a three year contract. Where were these "solid performances" (let's not get carried away and pretend he's Maguire - solid) when we needed them over the whole of the last THREE years??

Oh wow, Anthony has suddenly had an epiphany that he better put in a shift and contribute in line with him being one of the highest paid players!! I'm sure that has nothing to do with his contract ending soon....

Compare him to Canavan who had been a defensive leader and role model since he got in the team at the START of his contract. O'Connor has never been a role model defensive leader. He's competent when things are going well. When it's tough he gets all slopey shoulders and starts pointing at others.

Next season, expectations will be high and he has shown already that when expectations are high and things start going wrong, he will not stand and fight and lead. He'll rather moan and lose the effort.

He would though wouldn't he. His contract runs out soon. Rewind the last 3 end of seasons and fans were questioning why he was here and how it would be too expensive to get rid. No doubt his doing OK at the moment but let's not kid ourselves, we were so short on quality at the start of the season that AOC now looks half decent.

Another contract for Clarke... why? He's getting less and less minutes on the pitch and having less and less impact when he's on it. I think we'll be seeing more of the youngsters getting game time and if they don't step up, Turnbull should be looking to bring someone in and not keep someone who is deteriorating before our eyes.

As I’ve said. Game management. Kids don’t look after the ball as well.

he’s not worthy of a top deal obviously and the offer, as a back up, should reflect that.

he’s a key cog in the dressing room and we’d benefit from him sticking around.

Aye, you'll never win anything with kids. Just ask Alan Hanson.

Balance, as ever, is needed. We have Crankshaw, Vernam and Scales who are all improving but are prone to losing possession. Clarke can keep hold of it better than them.

got in the way today though. With Vernam was it? Frustrating

Vernam got in Clarkes way I think. Not sure if there was a shout though which would make all the difference.

If either of them had of called for that ball one of them would have got to it
