Is cook training? Might it be he’s carrying an injury and because we’ve no alternatives he’s playing matches but not much else-hence the weight gain?

 

Cook is a natural finisher but the rest of his games is poor he would be+better playing off a target man or at least someone to take the weight off him. On crosses he struggles to get off the ground there was one perfect cross from Foulds I think second half meat and drink to a good centre forward Campbell would have broke the net with it. But he was underneath it and it happens all the time

 

Blown out of proportion is a good analogy but seriously I was close to the touchline at Exeter in the opening game and saw Andy close up on several occasions and he had no gut on him then. Yes he will probably still score given opportunity (and a bit of protection from the officials). I thought he worked hard yesterday and never gave up but after half an hour he was blowing out of his arse and it is bound to affect his sharpness.
I like the guy and I would like to see him with good support players around him but maintaining his fitness/sharpness a bit better.

No it doesn't. It just needs to be competitive. Salford are a case in point, splashing the cash does not win you promotion. It requires a balance of a strong budget and a clear strategy behind it. Oh, and pinch of patience from the fans.

Striker is the one position I would like to think Hughes is over qualified to assess. Cook is by far and away our best striker but that being said he is 2 stone overweight for a professional footballer, I am 42 years old and the guy blows like me when he runs 20 yards. Our other (hard to call them that) striker are just shite as I said i would expect it’s the one position Hughes will be able to pick and if cook wants to play a fitness regime is more relevant than any other training for him.

 

He put weight on after the Covid enforced break around Christmas IMO. No way of proving it of course, as its subjective and we don’t get printouts off the scales, but his performances are suffering and his goals have dried up. He can’t last 90 minutes, which is unacceptable for any professional footballer.

Yes of course there will be limitations, those limitations move accordingly throughout a football season and transfer window. Aka Mansfield, originally set a good budget, then saw the team on a run, and increased their original “ limitations” to provide Cloughie with funds to invest in Prem and CC loanees. I don’t believe any of this they are “ cheap” b/s.

 

He is 1 up on Adam's as he has time now to start planning for next season - assuming we stay up of course. If MH hasnt the contacts and financial backing to bring in the talent we need then we may all as well just give up now. This season defo now gone but optimistic for next

Absolute horrocks. Adams would be gone if there hadn't been any dissent from the fans or threats to season ticket sales next year. Fantasy land.

 

Couldn't agree more. I'll be honest I was hopeful when he came in - his goals per game looked promising. But what we've discovered since, is that when he doesn't score goals he does bugger all else. Is he the goal scoring striker to propel us towards promotion? Well, no. Not enough tools in the box. Too easily turned and worked by centre backs. Not enough nous to find space for himself. At the very best he'll get 14/15 goals for us this season - acceptable as a secondary attacker, scoring midfielder, but he should be bagging 20 plus at least as our number one striker. He should go in the summer.

 

And does that make it ok? Bloody not. Bradford City need a 20 goal plus striker or we continue to be mediocre shite.
