It might just be me, but I find all this hatred for sparks pretty harsh, name a more pro active CEO I the last 20 years? He’s come in, finally got a manager that 99% of fans were more than happy with, got a commercial aspect up & running to create funds for the club. Delivered & budget that Rupp has obviously agreed to. Now is it his fault directly how that playing budget has been spent? Is it his fault rupp has not released more funds? Is it his fault the team are poor? It’s pretty clear to me it’s a commercially viable business. It’s also clear to me the blame is on Adam’s for not getting a tune out of his players. & an non existant owner who is happy to plod along. I’d certainly delete my account if this abuse was heading my way. All for trying to do the best in a job he obviously craves.

 

The one thing i think the CEO and Rupp are guilty of is letting Adams mouth off. He’s said a few things out of turn and needed bringing in line. Stuff about recruitment and stuff he should have kept behind closed doors. I hope he was bollocked in private, but publicly it has left the image Derek does and says what he wants and has no one to answer too. The absent Rupp seemingly hasn't a clue what’s going on.

Didn’t he say that last season was a failure and we as a club should be up there for promotion................ so straight away the next manager whoever it was gonna be is under the cosh without really seeing how bad the squad and the recruitment really are straight away he’s got the fans hopes up with these statement s rather than keeping quiet or if he has to give the press something , then it should be along the line of building for the future etc etc ............commercially he’s done a great job but 12k fans don’t really care about that it’s on the pitch that matters

I partly agree with that, but also the job of a CEO is to build a brand, sell what you have. If he came with a mediocre intent straight away people would be staying away. Fans like/need to be sold a dream, whether realistic or not

The only brand he is building is a penny pinching one that gets other to pay for maintenance and a failing one in terms of product. If he were a retail CEO he would be Gerald Ratner.

 

You could argue Sparks has done the remit set by Rupp. Balance the books, keep the fans sweet with some cosmetic changes around the stadium and bring in a manager proven to work with meagre budgets. Sparks can't go on the field and kick a ball as well. Don't get me wrong I'm not particularly a fan of his, all the schmaltzy sales talk makes me cringe, but he isn't responsible for that performance on Saturday. The blame predominantly goes to the manager. We have a terrible habit this season of going missing for the second half of games and Adams has not been able to change this. I know our squad is poor but there is a feeling the players are not sure what's expected of them, just running around and giving 100% is not tactical advice. On Saturday for instance, Kelvin Mellor could waltz into our half unchallenged and did so for most of the game. Why is the manager not instructing the team how to close down this option. Or sticking Sutton on the bench knowing full well he wouldn't use him. Are we that hard up that we stick unfit players on the bench?
Let's see what Saturday brings. But unless we have at least two new players starting, I dread us going one nil down because we get worse as games go on.

 

Sparks has done a fair job in most areas but he has to have the balls to tell Adams that results are not good enough and do it publicly to put Adams under pressure to get better results and at least show the fans he is onside with them

 

I had a read of the original announcement (10th Dec) and it doesn't mention anything about streaming or being on the radio. Just mentions that 1903 members get in free, and the great unwashed have to pay £2 with a £1 booking fee. Nothing about sending in questions, but I remember on here someone posted a thread inviting us to send questions in.
So, who is going to be our roving reporter tomorrow night? For sure we'll all want to know if it kicked off, or if it was another PR stunt.

 

Not 100% sure but I think the post about sending in questions might have referred to the Supporters Board meeting

 

Most of the questions to Adams will be from Sparks claiming they have been sent to him, It will be a PR arranged stunt from a PR professional, Adams will be let off lightly

 

If I were Adams, I wouldn't even be there. I would be at the Shay running the roost over what talent they have that has taken them to the top of the Conference ahead of the money bags clubs.

 

Definately agree with this although the main effect being not to turn half time draws into wins.

Statistically, in the league we have seen 5 winning (3) or drawing (2) positions reduced to draws or losses by the end of the game.

Conversely we have seen draws (2) or losses (2) from 4 games turned into wins/draws by the end of the game. 3 of which were in the August/September period.

 

Good chance to learn more about the National League too, ahead of next season.

 

For me Sparks has done nothing special in relation to improving the club, season ticket sales are down on previous seasons maybe it’s the price increase that was a contributing factor. No investment in players, new stand seating came free, nothing that I noticed at the last home game was any different regarding COVID costs, what will be interesting is if we finish nearer the relegation zone or the bottom half of the table Sparks will have nowhere to go in relation to increasing season ticket sales in fact it would be a miracle if we retained the the sales in 2021.

 

The first lot of seats were got at a reduced rate in conjunction with a sponsorship deal then the rest that have been done since they we've been paying a monthly fee to spread out the costs with blocks updated at regular intervals

 

Paying to replace seats, unless they’re broken, when you’re lower half of league two is a waste of money. Even more so when a good chunk of the seats replaced won’t have had an arse sat on them.
