Sorry state of affairs really, sounds like Trump is leaning towards running for the next election too. The world is a bit of a scary place at the moment, it's almost like social media has polarized the electorate and they'd rather have a celebrity/personality running the country than a good person with solid policies...

 

Not really even sure there is much of a left here. Genuinely. Both parties would be classed as right of center in the UK. Scary really. If people wanted real change/or there was a left-of-center party they would've voted Bernie. Mental Biden is in power bloke can hardly string a coherent sentence together. I'm not talking about his politics but about his physical nature. He's 78 years old - genuinely feel somewhat sorry for him.

 

I can't believe he was allowed to run tbh. You're obviously closer to the political landscape than I am - though the colleges and Universities look to have a clear left leaning to me. I have family who emigrated to near Boston around 25 years ago. They now have teenage children who attend University and as someone who's right of centre in my own outlook, some of their ideas and language I find terrifying. Maybe I'm just getting old.

 

Don't disagree with anything you've said in all honesty. The issue out here is as soon as anything even remotely left-wing is mentioned it's 'communist' and that seems to scare the life out of everyone. Mental really as the covid relief checks are a pretty liberal idea. But again - people don't seem to really understand policies - only buzz words. It's one of the reasons Trump's first campaign was so successful.

It's pathetic really. There's nothing even vaguely approaching communism in the USA, but even wet liberals like Biden get them foaming at the mouth.

On their album "Blind", The Icicle Works had the line "there's an actor in the White House", pre-dating a TV star by some distance, but this is USA, I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if next time around we have another "celebrity" in power but this time one who is associated with a single character.
Personally, I would hope the next president is a woman, her evisceration of high profile opposition members in congress meetings was wonderful to watch. Step forward Katie Porter.

Not specific to the election, but this feels like a relevant thread.

The Derek Chauvin (George Floyd) trial is being televised, which I think is common practice in the US. That seems to be asking for trouble in terms of stirring sensitivities to race relations. Not just in the US, but presumably in the UK too. And if for any reason any conviction is limited to Manslaughter, which doesn't seem in the realms of fantasy, I think there'll be a fresh wave of protests and riots.....

 

At least the prosecution managed to get manslaughter on as an option. At one point it was murder or free.

not sure on the exact definitions over there but I can not imagine it was in the blokes head to kill him when he was arresting him.

 

As with all these things no matter what the jury decide there are going to be complaints.

you only have to look at the police independent inquiry into the Met Police behaviour at the Sarah Everard vigil. That has come out and cleared e officers but there will now be complaints about the inquiry.

 

Yes was a complete shock the police clearing the police of any wrongdoing,

 

why bother asking the independent police complaints people to look into it if that is going to be the response though?
