Mental how people constantly try to poke negativity towards James Hanson. How can anyone from Bradford - who's a Bradford fan - belittle him and his story. Genuinely the stuff of dreams. This isn't just about your post... I just feel like I constantly see him getting negative press.

Was nice to see people on twitter calling for him to be our player of the decade.

Hanson made the most of the attributes he had. I don't really understand what more people expected him to do. Always felt that he was more respected by our opponents than some of our supporters. Helped to give us all some special times though.

The best thing of all about the Hanson bashing is that, despite being called a crock and a pub player, when he finally left City he moved to the best team in the division and won promotion to the Championship. That told you EVERYTHING. His critics don't understand football.

Everyone should be open to criticism. The fact that Chris Wilder signed him to seal their promotion says a lot. My gripe is that Hanson continually comes up in a negative light. He was one of the players that stood out in a roller coaster time of a ride of the club. I just don't always think he gets the respect he deserves to be honest. It will come with time, no doubt.

91 goals in 20 years? Not a bad return.

Not really. If his critics knew what they were on about he would have moved down the leagues upon leaving City.

The fact the best team in the league wanted him for a target man role tells you everything about his ability.

Injuries have hampered his career and of course he was never going to cut it in Championship, but as far as League One target men go, a fully fit (peak) Hanson was up there with the best of them.

Underachieved. He spent every minute on the pitch even when unfit, the amount of games he played he should’ve been easily over hundred goals. Strikers are judged on goals and his ratio wasn’t good enough. Not saying he wasn’t a good servant but he was massively limited as a player which showed in that video the rate his goal tally increased.

No - they haven't got a clue mate. You can near enough make negative points about any player on the planet. Especially at the level, we play at. If you can't see what he brings to a side - not simply goal-related - you haven't a clue.

He's a striker, even with other attributes he still has to make a contribution in the goal scoring stakes.

You're trying to persuade me that 40 odd games without a goal is acceptable for a centre forward and you're telling me that I haven't got a clue? :joy::joy::joy:

That's park territory, right there CB!

Graham Tomlinson went to Man United from City, Des Hamilton went to Newcastle. Plenty of players move up divisions with transfers, it doesn't automatically make them good enough.

You can't deny what he did at City and how Parky used him to help gain success. He's an integral part of the team that gained promotion and got to a cup final. Would I have in my team though? Probably not.

I liked Hanson and his partnership with Wells was excellent in league two.

My original reply was just to counter the ridiculous notion that somehow he shouldn't be criticised because Sheffield United bought him and that alone apparently elevates him beyond question. It's bizarre.

Again though, Wilder signing him means literally nothing. Alex Ferguson signed Djemba Djemba and other poor players but he also signed plenty of great ones. You can't put them all in the same bracket and attach invisible attributes to them just because they were all signed by Man United.

It's strange, sometimes I feel the angst against him somewhat bizarre for what he achieved during his time at City. But then I also agree with your view point and sometimes any criticism of Hanson was and still is to some extent met with ridicule. At best he was a physical league 1 striker, quite why Wilder felt the need for him will always remain a mystery to me.

It isnt that he shouldn’t be criticised because the Blades bought him.

His critics said he was League Two and pub league quality. Total bollocks, as his transfer to the Champions elect showed.

His critics either a) know nothing and are thick in ignoring facts presented to them or b) went OTT in their criticisms of him.

    Suspect its more the latter.
