Alex Gilliead Signs

Your first couple of lines sum up exactly why I though Connolly was a good player for us (I know I won't let it drop). People went on about no end product, but if you've chased a lost cause and harried a defender into making a mistake or giving away a corner and we score, thats an assist in my book. I'll shut up about him now.

 

I think he's got a chance of being a good signing. Time will tell, but I trust Derek Adams more than most of the naysayers on here

Your young enough to remember the current French manager playing more than 100 times for France and winning just about everything in that time. He wasn't a flair player and probably had a smallish number of assists. However, he was highly respected throughout the game and especially liked by his colleagues who called him the water carrier. Gilly is that kind of player, the type we have sorely missed. He will not simply be a squad player.

We would say work horse. How many times have we seen our defenders clear the ball only for it to come straight back. Gilly can hold and carry the ball thus relieving the pressure.

Your reply is rather sneering and insulting. How is talking about styles of play comparing the abilities of 2 players. Gilly does indeed play wide right, just the same as Deschamps did.

 

Not really. Go and read the posts on the link he posted. 21 posts, 6 positive about Alex, 2 of those said he was better than league 2. Statistically, that's a very small sample size of Scunthorpe fans - would you not agree?

 

Not really BB. You only have to read our columns on our thoughts of our players. Some, opinions are right, some are ridiculously wrong.
Those opinions,may differ from mine. I don’t have a problem with that. What matters is a balance. Those that should loudest, usually the most often, are just as wrong as say me posting one opinion just once nice and quietly. Who is seen the most?
That’s why there is an unbalanced opinion formed.

We will see, however overall, on balance, irrespective of what the Scunny forum say…….Gilly’s signing could be a master stroke. Let’s see , time will tell.

 

Deschamps was a defensive midfielder, he sat just in front of the defence. Not a wide right player.

 

Hence the water carrier tag. Don’t think I’ve heard that term used for a winger ever. Phillips last night carried out that role perfectly. If we do have a water carrier in our team, I expect it to be Songo when he signs.

 

Absolutely no comparison at all. Deschamps was the workhorse, the water carrier. Gilliead is none of these. It's a silly comparison.

Exactly why presenting the view of 6 people on a thread of 21 posts as all the supporters being in favour of a player or believing he is worthy of playing at the league above isn't correct.
