Taken from Transfermarkt mate. If they are wrong, as you suggest, then that website is wrong.

According to that site, Chicksen has started 11 times in L1 and only 5 times as a left-back.

Its an opinion that the stats mean nowt, not a fact.

At WORST stats as dramatic as these are a conversation starter.

You seem to want to end the conversation based on a personal taste to see Wood getting the chance ahead of Chicksen - stats suggest don't, but what is the counterweight?

Some badly formed impression that Chicksen gets beat all the time and never blocks crosses?

He started against Blackpool, Charlton, Donny, Bristol R, Wimbledon, Sunderland, Accrington, Rochdale, Coventry, Gillingham, Luton, Burton, Shrewsbury, and Wycombe.

A good mix of clubs from both ends of the table.

For me, there is no argument to be made that Wood hasn't had or needs a chance.

You’re correct, Transfermarkt hasn’t updated the last 3 games. I apologise on that one.

However, of the 14 L1 starts only 6 of them were at left-back. You’re saying he doesn’t deserve another chance in that position because when he played there the defence as a whole was gash? So how did the likes of NKP, McGowan and O’Connor continue to play, despite them being in the same sides that had goals put past us?

As I’ve said, the only REAL way of comparing the players is to watch every game again and count the number of crosses not cut out when either player is playing at left-back. Even that won’t be the true picture, but it’s a darn sight more accurate than just looking at the win column or the goals concede chart..!

You could take a couple of performances any season you wish and make the same accusation

I'll give you one, the first L1 play-off season when we allowed Colchester, who would be relegated, to do the double over us.

There'll be others and I bet Luton, Barnsley etc will have them

It's whether a team has the ability to bounce back (Colchester ended up been the last team to beat us at home for 18 months) clearly we now have this ability once again - the two away matches we would have lost early season has shown that

But of course, there is bound to be another poor performance as well

It’s moot. We’re in the bottom 4 for a reason. If we’re good enough then we’ll stay up.

If chicksen were all that Hopkin would not have signed callum Woods.

Most likely it is Woods at left back when he gets fit(...sigh) and next season Woods and Wood will be here as Chicksen's contract is up.
Chicksen does have a habit of getting injured or sent off so i can understand some fan's ire, he is not the most physical full back you'll see or the most creative like Caddis.

The best news to have come out of the January transfer window is that Hopkin doesn't actually rate Chicksen, which i doubted at one stage. I hope Woods can overcome his injury issues because he's an upgrade on both.

TBF, Chicksen has just returned from suspension. Hopkin had signed Woods and was always going to start him.

But once both players are fit and available, it will be telling which becomes 1st choice

With a fully fit squad it'll be Woods. There isn't even a discussion to be had.

Should be. But who knows for certain with Hopkin. As you say, some managers do pick players which fans find bizarre.

True though. Feel free to come back in May and point out that I was wrong.

My feeling is that you won't though.

    What a silly response.

How can the stats be unfounded? The analysis is there to be carried out.

Hey up FB. Here we go again :) . I'm sure we would all like better than Chicksen, but given our current squad we have to trust the manager that Chicksen is preferred to Wood at LB. I can think of no reason whatsoever why Hopkin would play Ckicksen ahead of Wood if he didn't think he was a (slightly) better left back

Well said. I didn't go to Wycombe but I imagine Chicksen is less exposed with Wood (or anyone else for that matter) playing that dedicated left midfield role

The flip side to that is that Caddis had a better game, despite not having the protection of another full back playing in front of him.
