Don't think it's possible to play a wind back system with Halliday and Ridehalgh as they are just natural defensive full backs. If you do, you need to start 2 strikers as there just aren't enough bodies up top to penetrate.

Crawleys back 4 just had to mark Cook with the CBs and the full backs could see everyone was at least 10/15 deeper than they should have been so all the play is done in front, that far infront they can react and play as they go. Really poor selections.

Watching league football for as long as you no doubt have as a city fan you can't have been surprised that the first one was a booking. I'd have assumed the card would come out as soon as the challenge went in. You see yellows for that all the time.

I’m absolutely clutching, but the only glimmer I saw was Odour had some decent moments and we were better once the subs were made.

Taylor looked well off it. Smallwood looked as ineffective as he did last season, the only grace I’ll give him is down to 10 men he was always going to struggle.

A fit Stubbs and Macdonald (on paper for the latter ) improve us I think. Their goal was decent, the red card shot us - I’ll reserve my judgement on the newness for this season until I’ve seen us play 11v11…

 

Asking a couple of steady Eddie but very much fullbacks to be dynamic wing backs, then putting that back 3 in between, is neglect. Its beyond incompetence and I'm staggered that Mark Hughes thinks it's anything other than a disaster.

 

It’s not much but we were so much better as a flat back four. Taylor, Ridealgh, Oyegoke, Smallwood we’re woeful or completely ineffective. If Smith was fit enough for the bench he should have started as a 2 with Cook. It’s one game So I’m not going to lose my sheet, but ditch the 3 at the back because we haven’t got the players to play it.

 

Problem is the people who have brought them in, it’s clear some of these are no way near good enough. It’s not effort , it’s quality and you’ve got it or you don’t.

Blame Hughes, Rupp , Gent , Sparka for brining these guys in. Appalling recruitment, sad thing is I don’t see us waken up and addressing it.

We are just carrying too many bang average players. Last season Crich was out best ball carrier. Platt looked uncomfirtable on ball and none of those recruited (inc Kelly) are any better. We've now shoehorned Oggy into playing there.

a few questioned me the other day when I said we’d had a poor pre season and didn’t know our best side. I stick by that completely.

Bradford City ... the gift that keeps giving. So disappointed and only one game in. The team selection was questioned by us all - maybe we should have a vote for our selection next time to help Sparky out.

 

It was clear in pre season that we don't have the players to play 3 at the back.

Let's go back to a 4 with Stubbs and Platt and maybe the midfield improvements might just be enough.

Definitely Halliday,Platt,Stubbs and Rides is steady enough in L2 as long as our midfield has improved.

Just shocking from start to finish. A 500 mile round trip to see nothing better, in fact worse than anything I saw last season.
I’ll give Hughes 6 games to sort it out and then he needs to go

 

The red card will be used to justify this result ..........Crawley ain't nothing at all but yet again we make a bog standard side look good ......... Still I cannot understand the mass meltdown ????? he showed last season what he's all about .......... poor set up using players that would struggle at BPAs level ........ain't you all missed this feeling over the last few months
