24/25 League 2

I don't think Doncaster have been anything special so far, average looking team but I can't believe how bad Crewe are. They haven't had a shot yet in the second half, at home! Other than the long throw, Crewe have absolutely zero attacking intent.

 

They are poor, I think the main difference between the 2 is fitness. Donny look lively, Crewe look jaded and leggy

 

Crewe look exactly how you'd imagine a team who's only won 2 of their last 12 games would look like including losing their last 3 home games 3-0. In that 12 game run they've only scored 7. Doncaster have probably know since going 2-0 up they just have to manage the game and that will be enough to get them through in the tie.
Play offs are all about getting the win, Carlisle didn't play great but managed to win them last season.

I think Donny looks like a side that are on a winning streak, I think they'd have easily dealt with us in the playoffs. Seem to have decent movement in the front 6.

 

Happens a fair amount I think? The team know the stonking run of form end up winning the POs. Happy winning attitude and mentality is worth its weight in gold at this time of year.

 

Yeah there's definitely a link between being in form and success in the playoffs.

 

Ironside was extremely effective with the two playing off him . Held the ball up well , midfield mobile .

 

Ironside looked like a decent signing at the time after a good spell at Cambridge but his season has been a slow burner what with their very poor start to the season. His career is very reminiscent of Andy Cook, spent a lot of his career in non league and matured into a decent lower league striker.

 

So frustrating watching two very average sides competing for a place in League 1 whilst we are all at home.

Guessing MK will be a L2 team again next season unless a miracle happens.....

3-0 Crawley run MK Dons ragged. Poor defending, plus letting Crawley GK take massive liberties.

 

What a job Scott Lindsay has done at Crawley, no idea how he has done it with the chaos behind the scenes. MK look like they've not recovered from the loss to Mansfield that ultimately ended their top 3 hopes and couldn't switch back to their form that got them to that position. This will make it 22 goals conceded in 8 games with only 2 clean sheets 24 games.

 

I hadn’t realised the time between our last game of the season and first game of next, over 3 months. Let’s hope we’re fully stocked, fit and ready to go, no excuses.

 

Called it a few weeks back. I think Doncaster will be league one next season despite being nothing special earlier in the season. The returning players and good recruitment in January has certainly had the desired effect. If they get promoted it hasn’t taken them too long to do so. I think they bounced straight back up the last time they were here, just a little longer this time. How can we continually get it so wrong..

 

Respect to Crawley. Maybe Rupp can emulate a fraction of the success that liccle Crawley have enjoyed during his tenure.

 

MK Dons look like they too will fail to buck a trend in L2, that has now lasted more than 10 seasons.

That is, sack the manager after the season has started and you ain't going up.

Indeed Ian Evatt at Bolton is the only manager to be appointed after the previous season has closed (June 30th) to take a club up in that next season. Significantly there 20/21 season started nearly as bad as ours!!

It shows that a good pre-season and window is vital in L2.

I said when we were terrible, that our squad was far better than most and well done to Donny, for giving an even more extreme example of been poor and then getting it together.

It's no comfort though. This season had to be the worst quality of footie since we got relegated, Frankly Mansfield and Stockport should have been getting 100 points. Even Notts County nearly proved you can have a defence like a sieve and still not be far off the play-offs (mind you - we gave them 7 of their 80-odd )
