With Vale/Carlisle/Fleetwood and most likely Cheltenham coming down League 2 looks like a poor one on paper next year.

Chesterfield will surely be strong given the recent history of clubs coming up with good structure and money to spend but all in all the league will probably be the weakest for a while.

You could see Notts County getting their act back on track but we should be one of around 5 teams that should be looking at the 3 auto spots.

unless the luckiest weirdest run in history saw us get a PO spot and go up but Donny have the momentum

Its simply a poor league and has been for years now ...........the fact that we still have a chance of the playoffs just shows how bad it really is.

It will certainly be a lot softer next year. For once we'll be going into a season with lots of goal scorers. Cook, Kavanagh, and Young can all deliver numbers in this league. We're not miles away from being a good squad. The focus needs to be on adding more energy to midfield and retaining Halliday.

It was a community trust type affair, but a couple of wealthy brothers now own 75% of the shares afaik.

Wealthy, and more importantly interested, motivated and determined owners combined with Paul Cook's nous will probably mean they'll become yet another club that City can no longer compete with.

1 team that won't be in League 2 next season is Gateshead as they've failed the EFL qualification criteria as they haven't been able to obtain a minimum 10 year lease on their stadium meaning they can't compete in the National League play offs. Solihull Moors get a bye to the semi final.

Outrageous decision all round but surely Altrincham as the highest finishing of the 4 should be the one to get the bye and Solihull should have to play Halifax instead.

Well whatever happens let’s just hope it’s either Halifax or Altringham that are promoted. Less distance for us to travel next season

If they didn't do this then it would meet the qualifying criteria is pointless and why should anyone else meet it if the EFL will just ignore it. There's probably logistical reasons for the rules being set out with the bye as there's not a lot of time to change the fixtures around so rather than mess around with 2 games you only do it with 1.

It will create issues for Gateshead going forward as now everyone knows unless they can negotiate a new lease with the council or find a new stadium they can't get promoted.

They've changed it. Altrincham straight through to the semis and Solihull play Halifax. The right decision eventually, but yet another *@?$ up by the EFL.

As far as i am aware , the EFL are not in charge of the conference league.

It's nothing to do with the EFL, it is the National League who set the rules for their play offs. It looks like the National League have changed their rules, when this was announced I downloaded the rules and it said that the team due to play the ineligible team would get a bye but now the rules state "In that event such Club shall not be replaced and the Competition structure and draw shall be adjusted as necessary by the Board on the basis of the remaining Clubs’ final league positions."

Sounds like Gateshead have already had the lease renewed, they just didn't get it renewed in time hence the boot. They had a March deadline that they knew about at the start of the season and didn't meet it in time. It has been renewed since but the EFL and NL have told them it's too late for this season.

From next season they'll be fine if they got promoted.

I don’t understand how it makes sense with regards to the lease. Look at us for example - our lease runs out in 4 years, with no guarantees. Why do they have to prove they have 10 years?!

It's the criteria to just be eligible for promotion to try to protect the clubs in the EFL with long term security as much as possible and guard against having an issue where a club is kicked out of their ground as much as possible. It would be impossible to force every club who leases their stadium to have 10 years all of the time but you can control the teams coming into the division.
