One interesting comment during the second leg of the L2 semi play off. Crawley had 97% player availability for the season . How that is measured , I have no idea but it was certainly said by one of the commentary team……..

 

It means players in their squad were only unavailable for 3% of games.

If only the rumours on social media about signing Dan Kemp were true, unfortunately like every summer it will turn out to be another fantasy. Twenty five years old linked up with Young perfectly in the first half of the season. Now he would be a really ambitious signing and make a statement. Instead we’ll probably get Sarcevic who is decent and would have been a great signing 3 years ago but he will be 33 next March and probably now on the decline. If we sign Sarcevic then we were probably never interested in Kemp.

 

Kemp was too "lightweight" for City when offered, prior to him going on loan to hartlepool.

 

That's the point though Kev. You're remembering just TWO games from his 41 appearances. Clearly that's nowhere near the standard that we require.

 

Complete luxury player that doesn't get in over Walker and Pointon for me.

I think our budget would be better spent in other positions.

 

He's not a proper CM, he's a very lazy no.10.

 

Absolutely , hence the comment “utterly inconsistent “, or I could have said “usually ineffective” ?

 

That's like comparing Foden to Kovacic? They play completely different roles?

 

In 10 years, Kemp might well be remembered for his "excellent 6 months" at Swindon.

Don't get me wrong, the lad looks like he has talent but it's got to be a worry that every club still looks to move him on after a very short period.

 

No he isn’t. He used to be a ten but now he plays deeper.

 

So I'm assuming he plays where Pattison was supposed to play, and where Walker ended the season playing?

(although some dispute Walker played deeper anyway lol)

That's some stiff competition... Walker, Pattison and Sarcevic... How do we pick one of them if they're all fit?

 

Personally I thought that we played 352 towards the end of the season. From speaking to Stockport fans he seems quite versatile and usually plays as a six or an eight but only rarely as a ten nowadays.
If we see him as a six then he’s competing with Smallwood and Mcdonald for one position unless McDonald leaves. If we see him as an eight then he’s competing with Walker, Bobby, Patto and Oduor for two positions unless one of them leaves.
Of course it’s all opinions and I could be wrong but either way he’s a a quality, experienced player and a proven winner too.

 

Re: competition for places, honestly, there are 6 that I'd get rid of. I'd target 5 replacements for:

Gilliead, McDonald, Oduor, Wilson, Oliver and Odusina.

If Sarcevic came in as a replacement for either McDonald or Oduor, that's an immediate improvement no matter which way you slice it.

And who knows what formation we'll start with next season, I don't think GA was ever married to any system and as long as we recruit a flexible squad, we shouldn't be in the same position as we were under Hughes where we're scrambling for wingers at the last second.

 

CITY are ready to kick off their summer recruitment with a double capture according to today's T&A.
