I was right in line with the attack first half and trust me, out of possession, we had 3 forwards in a line.
In possession, naturally there's movement, dropping deep to allow the wing backs space in behind, that's the reason for the formation.
Just like when we have possession Baldwin was essentially at right back as the back 3 all shift over to the side of the pitch the ball is, but still a 3.
Patto did get forward yes as did Smallwood, one goes other stays tactics.
As I've said though, Sarcevic WAS right of Cook, not wide right, but in that channel about half way between the semi circle on the edge of the box and the touchline.
Movement from the whole side in possession though was good, giving the impression they were all playing different positions.

Kavanagh left of the 3 pulls out wide to create room for one of the centre pairing, to run into space.
Smallwood is slightly more advanced until Patto sees the gap and goes for it.
Sarcevic to the right of Cook and close to him.

 

Was down at training today and cook was doing shooting practice and looked like he picked up an injury. Hopefully nothing serious

 

Omari Patrick has signed for Tranmere after being on trial with them and their fans are delighted and think they are going to win the league.

For the majority of the game, Cook & Kavanagh played up top with Pattison making more of the driving runs from midfield. He was certainly more forward than Sarcevic

 

That's just one still of a game though, it's pretty meaningless in reality. You could even use that to try and argue that we played 4 left wingers.

What you'd need would be average position stats but I doubt they exist for pre season friendlies and maybe not at all at our level.

 

So where are we at now? Do we think another 1 or 2 depending on who goes? McDonald? Oliver?

 

I'm thinking he is happy to keep Oliver as back up.

Maybe McDonald and Stubbs to leave?

 

Where has this talk of Stubbs leaving come from ?

 

Look at his Wikipedia, he’s turning into a bit of a journeyman so won’t be surprised if he goes.

 

It's been put forward as something that might happen, in the same way that the likes of Oliver, Smith, Wilson, Oduor, Lewis and even Young might leave. It wouldn't be surprising if some of the players unlikely to be making the starting 11 either request a loan move like Oliver did in January, or attract interest from elsewhere between now and the end of August when the window closes. Stubbs and the rest of them might all still be here after the 30th August but it wouldn't come as a shock if at least a couple of them weren't.

 

Just some fans opinion, including myself. I don't think he will fancy being well down the pecking order at centre back, which I think he will be.

 

See Nixon has posted on twitter about an hour ago Sunday stories and he's highlighted us as one. Anyone got any ideas if it's an incoming? Outgoing?

 

Who cares? He gets everything wrong I’d sooner take a rumour from Fordy or Park as gospel.

 

I think that moving McDonald on and bringing in some proper cover for Smallwood will be the priority now.
Other than that there may the odd loan departure depending on if there’s interest in any of our players.

 

I think most of it is gut feeling. I've thought from before pre-season that we would look to move him on and if his contract extension wasn't automatic I don't think he would have been offered a new deal. If Platt re-signed or Johnson didn't have his injury I think he would be gone by now.

Alexander was quick to drop him last season, he was dropped out after the Notts County game then only came back in for the Derby EFL Trophy game with most of the team keeping their place from that match, he was then dropped to the bench against after only 3 games and only returned again when there was no other option for CM and no other choice for the Doncaster game when he got injured. The goal Sunderland scored on Tuesday won't help his case for alexander to have faith in him.

 

Tbf he had only been on the pitch two minutes and the change of full back didn’t help either

 

I really can't see it, but could be wrong. I was once, just can't remember when.

 

Just one of many players we never seem to have shown a serious interest in despite the fact anyone with eyes can tell you he's quality at this level.

Players like Madden and Keillor-Dunn should have been signed YEARS ago.
