Huge thanks for sharing this. That's tonight's viewing sorted for me and my lad. What a side it was.

Was he really? I don't recall that.

I think our slow start is often referenced as a yardstick for 'patience' in later years. However, the key difference for me, is that in 98/99 we were on an upward trajectory, the structure of the club was sound, we'd made big investments and you could see the fragments of quality in our games. It was disjointed but it was there. Moore, Walsh, McCall, Whalley, Mills, Beagrie, Blake. Obvious talents, and there was genuine reason to believe it just needed time for relationships and connections within the team to form.

If I live another 50 years, I don't think we'll see a better or more enjoyable side.

    I agree
    It had everything.
    Steel
    Skill
    Goals.
After the dodgy start it was just a succession of convincing home victories with plenty of impressive away wins as well.
Lots of games where 2,3,4 or even the odd 5 goals were scored.

An absolute pleasure to watch and as polar opposite to these last few years as you can get.

Didnt Jagger tell the players (on the coach back from Ipswich) that he expected to be sacked the next day ?

What unbelievably fond memories of a perfect time gone by, not just for the footy but life in my late teens in general. How the feck did 25 year pass just like that :sob:

It's nice to remember just how good we actually were. The speed and accuracy of the passing, the movement upfront, the best central midfield partnership this club will ever have. You could go on, I watched a bit of the championship over the weekend and you realise just how far away from that standard league 2 is.

McCall as captain, and the partnership of Mills and Blake usually get the plaudits, but Beagrie was my star man that season. Unplayable at times.

Barnsley at home was probably the best individual performance I have ever seen by a man in a City shirt. Watson got the double off the bench, and the 3 points, but it was Beagrie that ran them absolutely ragged.

He'd beat a man then beat him again for no other reason than that he could. Different levels to this game and Beagrie was high level.

Wasn't very good at directing motorbikes into Hotel entrances though.

Huddersfield Town, and we absolutley battered them at home. Marcus Stewart - who else - was the difference if I remember correctly.

Turned them inside out for the fun of it - never got frustrated he didn't put the ball in because you knew it was going in eventually. An absolute joy.

A younger, injury free Beagrie, that took better care of himself (believed he liked the sauce), would have been at a top club and knocking on the England door.

Something I absolutely loved about Beagrie. He wasn't satisfied until he had his marker on his backside. Then, and only then, would he whip in a delightful cross for Mills or Blake to smash home.
