Agree re Wright, just like Smith, Oliver and Kavanagh, he offers very little to this team. Not the player we had on loan from Villa, that's for sure.
I've been saying since the start of the season that we need an experienced striker to play alongside Cook, today showed why.

We were simply beaten by the odd goal by a team that looked much better than us.

It was like Billy Sharp was a magnet. Unbelievably blinkered from Diabate and you could argue Smallwood as well who often takes up a good position to intercept the obvious on other occasions.

Still think we are competitive this year and shouldn't overreact to this defeat.

Sharp?? Don't you know that he's (a) over the hill (b) too old (c) legs have gone (d) there's a reason why no-one wants him (until Donny did)

    1. We were lucky not to be 3 down at HT
    2. Without Cook we would be knackered

Apart from the first 15 minutes where we knocked it around well without ever creating anything I thought we were very poor today.

Sometimes you learn more in a defeat than a victory.
Let's not debate anything further than Doncaster fully deserved their victory and the scoreline flattered us.
The main differences between the two sides today were:-
    1. Doncaster pressed our defenders better, hence our defenders hitting long balls invariably conceding possession to the opposition.
    2. When Doncaster broke, they broke with pace, usually with three attackers bearing down on our defence. We have no direct pace when attacking.
There are ways and means of winning and losing. Today we were up against a team that had a mix of experience and youth but also had more for guile and energy than us.
Their No. 7 and 21 were everything that we lack in our team. We can't play through the lines with guile and certainly don't have the pace to break on the counter.
Fortunately for us L2 this season is a poor standard and we will rarely play the likes of Doncaster often.
We need Baldwin back to replace Diabate, Richards to replace Wright and hopefully someone to stake a claim to play alongside Cook.
Finally, please let us recruit a forward thinking player with pace in January to enhance our attacking options.
All is not lost after today but a realisation that we are probably just above average in this league that will hopefully push us into the play-offs at the end of the season.

    Awful defensive performance today.
Nothing much to say about the rest of the team either.
Five subs all at once,a Cook goal and we start to play what the hell did I witness today?

We deservedly got beaten by a better team today simple as that, I'm not fussed really because our squad we've assembled is play offs at best so when we come up against teams vying for autos we going to have to accept it's going to be a tough ask for us, and just hope we scrap our way into the playoff lottery over the course of the season.

I’m not convinced that Donny are a better team overall but it proves that when you put most emphasis on attacking the opposition you are likely to score goals and goals win games.
Defensively I thought they were weak but because our attacking threat was limited to Tyreik Wright for 70 minutes we didn’t capitalise on that.
I’m certain that if we’d started the game with Richards and Halliday we’d have scored in the first half and maybe gone on to win the game.

watched the game on ifollow, my take on the game.

We started bright. There was a good chemistry between Pointon an Wright. It seems the former is beginning to adjust to a position in the starting line up. As for Wright, Defensively he is poor, but we knew that. Attacking wise, he makes good runs into space and gets into better positions but needs to seriously work on his end ball. He had a lot of chances to put in a good cross but very rarely found his man.

Smith did okay. Linked up well with the midfield, drew in fouls. Tried to create a few chances. Not going to be overly harsh on him, he had an OK game.

The goals. First one, I haven't got a clue what Diabate an Bryne were doing. Sharp ain't the quickest nor the strongest, an he certainly isn't as sharp as he used to be, but he's won the ball between our two massive defenders, gotten into space, an laid the ball off for his team mate. Shocking defending. And yes, I am going to blame Walker for the goal because the shot was straight at him. He literally dived out of the way of it.

Second goal now. It was evident that Benn was knackered, or has cramp. Donny kept flying down that exposed right flank, that's on GA. I don't care how many other subs you are thinking of making, just get Benn off for Halliday so our defence isn't all over the place. And yes, credit to Sharp, he's old, slow an whatever else our fans may say but he scored.

It was a decent fight back towards the end, Cook doing what Cook normally does, but I do wish our keeper an defence would hurry up a bit sometimes an get the ball into the box rather than messing about sometimes

We won't come across teams as strong as Donny this season, an hopefully, a week's break is what's required to get the team back to full fitness as most of them looked knackered today. Somewhat understandable seeing as they've played 3 games in 8 days. I don't really care how strong our pre season was, it's league two an our players are going to get tired naturally when we play a high intensive style of football several times in the space of a week

I blame Alexander for that defeat. Based on performances Richards should have started ahead of Wright.
Benn may have told his manager he was fit to start, but it was patently obvious he was struggling for fitness, he even went down more than once. He couldn't track back and their second goal went in. It was clear that Halliday needed to come on. No idea why the substitution was delayed.
Jamie Walker didn't have his best game, and we improved vastly once Corry Evans came on. Hope he can cope with more minutes on the pitch.

Too many heads dropped today when we went behind. I'm not Smallwood's biggest fan but granted he's done better this season but he's just not vocal enough for a captain. On saying this I can't think of one player that would be in the style of a particular Gary Jones!

Spot on. We play a strong attacking Doncaster side and play two wing backs who are poor defensively and we wonder why Donny won. Halliday and Richards had been excellent in the last two games and should not have been dropped.

Can anyone explain the point of us signing Evans and Huntingdon?

Well we improved a lot after Corry Evans came on. I suspect that 90 minutes is beyond him until he builds match fitness, but he was definitely a positive.
