If Young does stay we should be doing all we can to sign Kemp.

    Not sure I agree.

Under Hughes maybe, but under GA we should probably just go for 6'4 striker and flog Young.

This is why I dont see GA as the right man for the job, even by some miracle we get promoted next year, I dont see his style of football working in the league above. The reason we did so well 10 years ago was because we had players that were versatile an can adapt their game to suit their surroundings. There's no point in going up if we have to rebuild the team from scratch next summer to suit League One. Its a recipe for distaster

Stevenage, under fatty Evans , who has mostly plays lump it football are doing alright in the league above.
You can never tell what will work at the lower levels.
Now in the championship , i believe it would fail.

I've said for ages, that we should have been in the market to bring in Carl Pierregina from Oldham and Aiden Flint. Two hard as nails, brutal centre halves would have sorted us out in the same way Roy McF & Joe Cooke did back in 81/82.

Football has changed, even in the lower leagues and recruiting for a hoof ball style used to be the easiest where as now its probably the hardest style to recruit for in L2. I said it a few weeks back, but even in the 20/21 season, there were only 4 teams with a pass completion of over 70% in L2, this season there are currently 15 teams who fit that stat. This season we average the most long passes per game, more than any other team in L2 and second in the EFL to Stevenage with 86 long balls per game, in 20/21 86 long passes a game wouldn't even get you in the top 10 of the list. Again in 2021, Bolton topped the short passes per game stat at 336 per game in L2, that amount this season would see them 10th in the list. Every metric you can find says teams in L2 are playing a possession based game and therefore will likely (or should be unless they are idiots) recruiting players to play that system. But teams are also not spending as freely due to the costs of everything skyrocketing over the last few seasons. So more than ever you NEED to recruit properly, so you aren't spending a load again in 12 months to pay off and start again.

There will always be a long ball game, it's getting phased out but if that's the style you want then great, but recruit to it. The reason Evans is working out well in L1 is because he has pretty much nailed the recruitment over the last 2 seasons. If you look at the PL now, academies are teaching and using the same tactic as the first team, to get players ready for an easier transition. So if you are playing a possession style, you're likely to get a good youth prospect from your Man City, Liverpool, Brighton style academies because they want their lads to keep the ball.... if you are hoofing it about, not many teams are going to want to send their top prospects out to you.

Something GA really needs to look at. But looking through his career, he has used a 433 with a sitting DM, two box to box mids and a lone striker, but he hasn't ever really been a target man type? His top goal scoring forwards under his management have been Adam Rooney 5'9, Kevin van Veen 6'2, David Ball just under 6ft, Paddy Madden just under 6ft & Jamille Matt 6'1 and I wouldn't say any are really target men. Might try and go back to what he usually does in the summer?

Oliver isn't having much of an impact though. Wonder what will happen to him in the summer. Hopefully we can get rid but I can't see there being many takers.

Of course it all depends what formation he plays, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see Gillead as LWB next season if we keep 3 CBs, with Richards as back, as the guys on WOAP said. I wouldn’t have a huge issue with this, there’s definitely more important areas to address if this was the plan.

I expect he'll be allowed to leave. I don't think he'll have issue finding another club unless he's wanting stupid wages. His strength of winning lots of aerial duels will be perfect for a lot of teams in league 2 either as a starter for a lower down team or as a back up for a team higher up. I can see Harrogate coming in for him to replace Armstrong that they lost in January and haven't replaced yet.

I should imagine he will be on a good wage as well, we really do need to move him on some how.

A friend at work kind of knows Vadaine. Bloke I know, knows his mum more than him but has known Vadaine since he was about 10. Guy i know, his kid was in the Sheff Weds academy until recently and Vadaine has popped by a few times.

Anyway, he said he caught up with him at a family party after he signed for us and said we matched some L1 offer. He had a couple southern teams after him, but he wanted to come back up north because his wife and kids still lived in Sheffield whilst he played down south at Gills.

We matched, I'm sure he said Cambridge? Dunno why that's in my head, but he was waiting for a northern offer.

Why don't we just be radical and use what Oliver brings in a front two, possibly with Kavanagh.

Who knows, it might work rather than wasting money paying him off and finding a reasonable replacement.

If Cookie is on form, Vadaine will be sub only at best, We have plenty in the striker department , Smith , Young, Kavanagh.
Try and free up his wages

Personally I thought Vincelot was much more effective for us at CB, rather than CM which he signed as

Cook hasn't been on form for weeks. I'd rather we moved him on than Oliver. Might score goals, but we are a better team with him not in.it.

I doubt Young will be here either.

Have you been on the sauce General. Release Cook rather than Oliver?. Surely that's a wind up.
