It seems McDonald may not get many games next season if he's still here, as you say when he receives the ball he usually tries to make a forward pass even if it only a 5 yard ball, that 5 yard pass could be the start of a goal making chance, unfortunately most of what we've seen from Richie is either sideways or backwards, I do believe Hughes had a large part to play in that during last season with regards protecting the ball.

 

All fair points @Rcbantam , I believe most thought a basket case of a club and certainly in for a long season in a relegation scrap, I still remember how once we'd equalised they then went on to score two more as if we weren't on the pitch.

 

He deserves a better deal rather than an extension on his current. We still dont know if the option is exclusively in the clubs favour. If it was, surely it's brainless waiting to trigger it on people like Halliday and Pointon?

Can't imagine it's changed as it's been the same date every season for ages, but with deals expiring, the player involved can officially (I say officially as agents could well be taking calls early) start talking to other clubs from June 1st, even if you have an option. Usually retain lists are out by then and offers made, but if we've not heard anything by then and haven't triggered it, he's fielding offers.

I thought Gillingham were dreadful. Fill yer team with big lads and that's it. Lapslie hasn't changed much from his Mansfield days - slightest bit of contact and he's on his arse.

Delighted for Halliday. Really hope we offer him a new deal.

 

If we decide not to offer Halliday a contract/extension then that means everyone else is leaving because if he can't make the grade then no one else has a chance based on their performances in the first 40 or so games this season.

 

Halliday spoke after the match and he said he wants to stay here.

Thought Kelly and Platt were great today and kept the big front two Hawkins and Andrews quiet for the most part.

Also wanted to mention Oyegoke who has slotted in well since his return and had a good game today I thought, on the back of a few good games for him recently. Think GA might try and sign him in the summer!

 

Just noticed Hallidays goal was credited as a Walker assist. Since when was a throw-in classed as an assist?? You learn something every day

And that first save by Walker when he tipped it over, some of our fans would have been overcome with orgasm had that been Lewis when he was with us. Absolutely brilliant, as was the one he instinctively saved with his feet shortly afterwards. A very close second to MOTM

 

Thought we played some half decent stuff with the usual rubbish thrown in in between.

Halliday was everywhere as usual, walker and pointon started really well before fading a little with us creating very little of note beyond the first ten minutes.

Be really interesting to see what Alexander's approach will be next year, though I suppose that will only really become clear when we start seeing the signings coming through the day.

Fans will sit through rubbish if results justify the means however if he is going to persist with the style we have seen so far he going to have to up his win percentage towards the 40/50% mark.

Another thing, any chance of Stefan employing a club barber, think we had more players wearing a bobble than the lionesses last night

 

Whats annoying is as someone has posted they were struggling to turn 18 players out for their first game of the season against us, with American owners you have to wonder did they get lucky with the appointment of Scott Lindsey or have they learnt quickly.

 

Thought Gillingham were poor by the way - probably the worst team I’ve seen this season.
