I don't think he's useless as a forward but I do think he's sub-standard in certain aspects of his play, as is everyone at this level. When he's not performing to his strengths should we try something different? I honestly don't know for certain, hence why I'm on the internet and not the dugout, but I'd like to see us perform more like last night (with the right outcome) and suspect it was partially due to the non availability of cook that we were able to play that way.

Let's see what transpires on Saturday? I'm happy to leave it to GA - good job as I have absolutely no influence whatsoever from my armchair

Smith will never score enough to put a league side to the sword. Perhaps Young coming in would change that but with Kavanagh and Odour either side of him there's be very little point in crossing the ball and we'd perhaps have to play through sides, playing deep, on a terrible, uneven pitch.

Not for me.

Cook down the middle with Young/Kavanagh/Odour/Chapman either side is plenty good enough for this division.

If Cook doesn't play or is subbed then Young is probably the only other option down the middle.

 

No one played the target man last night so why cant we play the same way with Cook in the side with wingbacks etc getting crosses in as they did last night.

You do have to wonder how he managed to score 30+goals last season with his non-league skills, you deserve pelters with regards the comments above, oh by the way who's our leading goal scorer once again, you know the one with non league skill levels

Fair point. My main takeaway was that their defence marshalled our forward line very well, and that with Cook in the lineup it perhaps wouldn’t have been as straightforward for them - which is not taking anything away from the Wycombe defence or our forwards last night - they just came out on top in that battle.

 

If they marshalled our attack so well, why did their 'keeper have to make so many saves?

Not sure why you are choosing to single him out then, given his sub standard contribution in his time at the club dwarfs the majority of his team mates.

 

Not sure anyone is celebrating, most were delighted with the 90 minutes compared with some of the stuff we've seen recently, if it had not been for our poor finishing something many condemn Cook for on here we'd have won the game by half time, playing the striking role at any level is the hardest position to play IMO, keepers can save you games (as we saw last night) but they cant win you games, and I don't think for a minute we missed those chances on purpose ?.

Let’s stop blowing smoke up the keepers arse, the saves were easy and the shooting was poor.
The chances we created last night were fantastic, it was exciting to watch but we lost because we didn’t have a goal scorer on the pitch. Simple.

 

I mentioned a while ago that we now have forwards with pace who don’t sit back. This can only help Cook. Kavanagh can win headers too. Cook has been off it all season but still gets the shirt. Imagine their defenders playing him and leaving gaps for our speedsters.

Celebrations never took place in the stadium unless you mean applause at the end following a descent display.
Had we played on grass and not mud the attempts on goal may have yielded a goal from our forwards but swivelling on that surface to get a clean shot at goal was always going to prove problematic and so it proved to our cost.

 

I wasn’t referring to you personally but there’s others who have posted that the keeper had the game of his life. He didn’t, my 74 year old mother could have saved some of those tame efforts.
