Reading the thread title instantly though we have players who move slower than solar panels

It would help a lot of they laid turf at the end of the season, instead of re-seeding.it.Close season is too short to expect seed to provide a robust sports pitch.

Except that’s not what the experts say. Don’t you think the club seeks expert advice?
One of my friends is a grass expert who used to work at St Ives Turf Institute and has been around the world assessing and judging sports pitches for FIFA and other sports bodies. He’s been very complimentary of the work that the club has done on the pitch in the last few years.

The fact is that, unless the club is prepared to spend absolute megabucks completely excavating the pitch down to a great depth, getting rid of the crap underneath, putting drainage through the retaining wall and installing state of the art under soil heating and drainage systems, it’s always going be vulnerable to exceptional weather such as the monsoon rainfall we’ve had in recent months. The pitch has been in superb condition for the last few seasons because of the good work that the ground staff have been doing. But unless we get a sugar daddy prepared to pump in multi millions in remedial work then there are going to be occasional seasons when the pitch is badly affected by exceptional weather.

But the pitch has not been in superb condition the past few seasons. There was one season when we had a very mild winter, but otherwise the pitch has been poor for years.

I believe @wetherbywhaler@wetherbywhaler posted what is required during the closed season and it doesn't need returfing, but what can they do the pitch was excellent until the resent hard frost followed by the rain day after day.
You would hope the covers we have are as good as anything on the market and if not why not if there is an upgrade surely its a cheaper option that a postponement and then playing two games a week on a badly damaged playing area, although I thought Tuesday night game against MK Dons showed if you have a team confident to pass the ball it didn't stop MK Dons playing that style, and yesterday it didn't matter up to a point as Alexander knew it would be a matter of an aerial bombardment in our box.

That is just not true. Here are the video highlights from when we beat Sutton in April 2023. The pitch is a lush green.

Nonsense. Until the persistent heavy rain over the past few months the pitch has been in excellent condition since the limited drainage work was done on it. I think that was 2018. I think you need to go to Specsavers if you couldn’t see how good it’s been for the past few seasons.

Does the EFL allow for matches to be postponed in situations like this? I.e. the pitch is playable but is likely to be damaged if played upon.

I get that the pitch is still in good enough condition to play football on but there must be an increased risk of injury for players at the moment compared to when it's in good condition and it is probably not going to be completely sorted until the close season.
